Grid Modernization Engineer

Are you ready for your next challenge? Hatch continues to expand its Smart Grid team advising utilities on the impacts of grid modernization, digital utility solutions, electrification, advanced grid operations, and distribution system design.

The increased deployment of distributed energy resources (DERs) and automated or remotely operated grid management technologies has provided additional complexities and challenges for utilities as they transition from a monodirectional model of simply providing electricity to a complex, digital, data intensive, prosumer driven, decentralized energy solutions provider. Technological advancements (e.g. smart meters, automatic feeders, smart inverters, grid edge computing) and emerging business models (community microgrids, transactive rate-based prosumer models, etc..) are changing the industry.

Hatch's Grid Modernization team support utilities with gap assessments, multi-year roadmaps, business case developments for specific initiatives, specification & requirements creation, technology evaluations, and entire program and advanced technology implementations. Technologies the Grid Modernization team supports include AMI 2.0 smart meters and associated systems, distribution automation, ADMS, DERMS, DER modeling & integration, demand response and load management, DER aggregation platforms, and DSO platform development.

We work alongside our clients to modernize their grids to meet the challenges of today and the future. Hatch is looking for Senior, Intermediate, and Junior Grid Modernization Engineers with a desire to create utilities of the future.

Project Delivery Responsibilities may include:
  • Contributing and/or leading grid modernization projects such as those listed above
  • Solve challenging problems pertaining to grid modernization plans, specification definition, or project/program implementations
  • Senior and Intermediate level resources will be expected to mentor and guide more junior resources within the team, providing mentorship and direction
  • Work alongside and support delivery of projects from other Hatch service offerings including those from Hatch's Digital, Advisory, Technology, and/or Infrastructure businesses

Business Development Responsibilities may include:
  • Identifying and pursuing clients planning to modernize their grids within North American & the Caribbean
  • Leading or participation in Bid / NoBid discussions for potential opportunities
  • Leading or supporting the creation of proposal documents, including scope, schedule, and level of effort estimates
  • Working with the marketing team to establish / update marketing & client facing materials, as applicable
  • Senior resources would be expected to lead business development initiatives expanding the team's project pipeline
  • Senior and Intermediate resources would be expected to contribute to marketing campaigns, attend and speak at industry conferences, and present to clients to advance leads and secure opportunities.
  • Develop thought leadership materials for publication in industry publications, at conferences, or generally on applicable social media platforms
