Dynamic Earth Solutions (DES) specializes in site planning, spatial information and digital terrain modeling, surface and subsurface investigations, rock mechanics, underground structures, geotechnical laboratory services, flood forecasting and water resource management through our geotechnical, hydrotechnical, and civil site development expertise.

Hatch is currently seeking a highly motivated Highway CAD Designer to excel as an integral part of our growing and dynamic Highways & Bridges team, based out of our Mississauga office.

In the role of a Highway CAD Designer, you will be supporting the Infrastructure team by leading a team of designers and technical professionals as part of significant contribution to high profile and multi-faceted transportation/road projects for a portfolio of regional/municipal clients within southern Ontario, as well as by collaborating with Hatch's global teams on transportation initiatives throughout the world.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to apply your designing skills, contributing to a collaborative and innovative team to the successful delivery of high-profile projects including a variety of highway planning and design assignments being undertaken on behalf of the Ministry of Transportation Ontario (MTO) or for a portfolio of key Regional and Municipal clients throughout the Province.

As the successful candidate, you will:
  • Collaborate with Project Teams including engineers, designers, and various technical lead and specialists for the planning, preparation and execution of highway/transportation design.
  • Participation in the preliminary and detailed design of roads and highways networks, involving full spectrum of road classifications including highways, major/minor arterial, urban and rural road etc.).
  • Undertaking drafting work for civil engineering projects, roadway geometric design including design of intersections and interchanges, grading, roadside safety analysis, design of pavement marking and signage, traffic staging design, and quantity calculations.
  • Assistance to project managers and/or engineers with preparation of design and contract documents including technical and other project specifications.
  • Prepare reports and document project activities and data.
  • Be progressive, imaginative and enthusiastic in the work and strive to add value where possible for the benefit of the company and our clients.


You bring to the role:
  • Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology or Technician from an accredited College.
  • Minimum 3-5 years' experience with highway and road design, with experience in Regional and Provincial codes/standards considered an asset.
  • Working experience with AutoCAD, Civil 3D and 2D drafting is required.
  • Working experience with OpenRoads would be an asset.
  • Experience in the use of provincial transportation specific software would be an asset.
  • Experience working on MTO projects/designs would be an asset.
  • Good technical and communication skills are a necessity.
  • Experience in maintaining project design files including project setup, validation and quality control, and systemizing project data/design files to project standards.
  • Ability to work on several projects concurrently.
  • Ability to solve problems, complete assigned tasks efficiently, and meet project deadlines.
  • Ability strive and contribute in a team environment.
