Hatch, a full-service consultancy, is currently seeking a highly motivated Rail Systems Senior BIM/CAD Designer to join our growing Infrastructure, Rail Systems team in Mississauga, ON.

We are looking for a results-driven engineering professional with excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work well in a team environment. Candidates must be detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills, ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines and maintaining a high level of quality, as well as the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

In this role, the successful candidate will be working with an elite group of rail design professionals focusing on North American projects, with opportunities in both the heavy rail and transit markets.

The ideal candidate will be motivated, qualified, with proven experience delivering design and construction projects. While rail and transit design expertise is essential, it will be equally important to have superior interpersonal skills, as teamwork and client interaction will be required for nearly every assignment. Finally, the ideal candidate will demonstrate integrity and commitment, trust, and the ability to follow through - areas critically important to the Hatch culture.

As the successful candidate, you will:
  • Lead the design of complex, multi-disciplinary projects from start to close-out.
  • Collaborate with design team members locally and remotely to accomplish design objectives.
  • Plan and organize resources to ensure successful project delivery and support professional development.
  • Provide leadership on design and required deliverables including horizontal and vertical alignments, rail systems design, quantity take-offs, cost estimates, and construction contract documents.
  • Provide support to other Hatch offices and regions in the delivery of work.
  • Gatekeeper for all in-coming and out-going model and drawing information.
  • Work across MEP disciplines to ensure an overall design fit together and satisfies each discipline's individual requirements.
  • Troubleshoot all problems that arise in a rapidly changing digital coordination environment.
  • Develop engineer's concepts into accurate models and drawings, through direct communication with taking responsibility for timely completion of deliverables with minimal supervision.
  • Produce designs and drawings for equipment layouts, room layouts, wiring and interconnection diagrams for project systems, and detail installation drawings for equipment.
  • Ensure all drawings and deliverables are checked to comply with project and company quality standards.
  • Execute designs following the design criteria for the project as well as defined design standards, codes, and regulations.
  • Supervise the work of junior designers assigned to the projects.
  • Manage submissions and ensure proper QA/QC protocols are implemented.
  • Filter highly detailed model and annotative information into, logically organized, easy to read package.
  • Engage in the development of BIM procedures/standards and facilitate their implementation into projects.


You bring to the role:
  • Associated Degree or Technical Diploma in Drafting, Engineering Technology or related education.
  • Exceptionally proficient in Revit 2019 or higher and/or Civil 3D 20xx or higher.
  • Minimum 7+ years' experience in Revit or Civil 3D environment for rail and/or transit projects.
  • Working knowledge and experience in BIM 360.
  • Working knowledge of equipment and cabling, conduit runs typical for infrastructure environment.
  • Strong familiarity with industry design and construction guidelines, standards and regulations.
  • Multidisciplinary design knowledge.
  • Time management skills and the ability to adapt to change.
  • Demonstrate strong analytical, problem-solving, decision-making skills and multitasking ability with a history of delivering projects on time and on budget.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to communicate effectively and professionally with colleagues and clients (both written and orally).
