Reporting to the Senior Lead, Indigenous and Community Affairs, the Lead, Indigenous & Community Engagement is responsible for building and maintaining positive, and mutually beneficial, relationships with Indigenous leaders, representatives, and community members. The primary focus will be on internal and external communications and facilitations relating to the Fording River Extension Project. This role will contribute to the development of engagement and consultation strategies and participate in the implementation of Indigenous Agreements. This is temporary position for a 12 month period.

This role focuses on public engagement, therefore outstanding presentation skills are vital to successfully capture a wide range of audiences.

Responsibilities:
  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Develop and track Indigenous engagement strategies, plans, and community investment
  • Support regulatory consultations and engagement with Indigenous and local governments regarding the Fording River Extension Project and other permitting projects
  • Analyze consultation and other regulatory requirements and processes including expected impacts, estimated benefits and risk analysis
  • Develop, support, and maintain content relating to relationship management and engagement
  • Plan, implement and support internal and external engagement activities
  • Ensure the implementation of appropriate project management practices including briefing notes, decision memo and meeting records
  • Represent Teck in a variety of settings, with Indigenous communities, partners, and regulatory authorities
  • Support the application of Teck's Indigenous Peoples Policy and Communities and Indigenous Peoples sustainability goals


Qualifications:
  • Degree in Indigenous Studies, Law, History, Social Science, Geography, or other related field or experience
  • Minimum five years demonstrated ability in Indigenous community relations, communications, marketing, regulatory approvals, or environmental management
  • Experience in engagement facilitation including digital forms, and participating in public engagement processes
  • Demonstrated success working with Indigenous groups and designing, managing, and evaluating engagement plans and programs, with a detailed understanding of the Canadian Indigenous context
  • Direct knowledge of Indigenous guidance such as the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples and the Truth and Reconciliation Commission
  • Demonstrated understanding of regulatory process, requirements and context for resource development projects including consultation tracking and reporting
  • Valid Class 5 Drivers license or equivalent
  • Training or experience in conflict resolution and negotiation is an asset
