Summary:

We are seeking an experienced construction project manager with a background in construction management and/or civil engineering to join our growing organization. This role is essential to making a difference in the health, wellness, and safety of communities. The person in this position will manage and support engineering services during all steps of the construction phase, including:
  • Contract administration
  • Construction management and monitoring
  • Coordinating construction project work with clients and contractors
  • Responding to RFIs and reviewing submittals
  • Processing change orders and payment applications
  • Monitoring site construction activities for conformance with project plans
  • Leading construction meetings, developing schedules, and preparing daily field reports of construction activities
  • Conducting site investigations
  • Completing construction documentation reports and record drawings
  • Engineering design work related to civil engineering features, levees, earthwork, utility modifications, conveyances, dams, and other hydraulic structures


The work will focus on flood risk reduction projects, dam modifications, stormwater and drainage, and heavy industrial facilities. In addition, this role will support design services and work related to civil engineering. This role is anticipated to require in-office, construction-phase project management, local field assignments, and short-term out-of-town assignments.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in construction management, construction engineering or civil engineering, or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years of related work experience
  • Knowledge of basic construction terminology, standard forms, contracting, and subcontracting procedures
  • Experience with preparation of technical reports, detailed design plans, bids, addenda, change orders, payment applications, technical specifications, and contract documents
  • Experience overseeing or observing construction projects
  • Experience coordinating with contractors and engineers using drawings, technical specifications, and contract documents
  • Ability to facilitate construction meetings with the contractor, owner, engineer, and other stakeholders
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, Civil3D, and/or Bentley Microstation engineering design software
  • Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated project organization and management skills
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship
  • Acceptable driving record


Preferred Qualifications:
  • 8+ years of related work experience
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain one within one year
  • Experience working on civil engineering, earthwork, industrial, and/or mining projects
  • Experience with project scheduling, construction cost estimating software, and construction management software (Procore, Aconex, Oracle Submittal Exchange, or similar)
  • Involvement in overseeing construction of multidisciplinary projects including civil, geotechnical, structural, mechanical, and electrical work
  • Experience administering QA/QC plans and coordinating the work of subcontractors, site inspectors, and third-party monitoring and testing


A hybrid work arrangement may be considered for this position. A hybrid work arrangement refers to splitting time worked between a Barr office and a home office. This position can be based out of Barr's Minneapolis, Minnesota, or Bismarck, North Dakota, offices.

NOTE: Some work locations may feature rough terrain typical of construction sites and may also require entering and working in facilities that include limited accessibility, moving machinery, and other conditions typical of industrial facilities. Job assignments may involve work on waste disposal sites and sites requiring cleanup of hazardous materials. An OSHA-mandated physical exam may be required. Safety training will be provided. Applicants may be asked to participate in a drug screening program at the request of specific clients.
