The Opportunity

We are currently seeking a Mine GEOLOGY STUDENT OR NEW GRADUATE to join our Vale Newfoundland and Labrador Operations Team in Voisey's Bay. This is a fixed term (4 month) position based at the St. John's office. This position offers the possibility to travel to the Voisey's Bay Mine site.

As a Junior Mine Geologist, you will have the opportunity to further your development by providing day-to-day support for various projects and initiatives within the Mine Department. From providing labour and technical support for ongoing underground Definition Drilling programs at the Voisey's Bay Mine Site to leadership development, diversity & inclusion, and culture, you will have a holistic and enriching experience like no other. You will also gain a deeper understanding of our company and our sustainable approach to mining via exposure to other Vale operations in Canada and our global headquarters in Brazil. In this position, you will:
  • Follow departmental safety program ensuring health, safety and environment are protected.
  • To support and participate in Mine Technical services activities.
  • These duties include but are not limited to:
    • Technical support and consultation with senior geological staff
    • Geological interpretation
    • Core logging, section generation, maintaining accurate drill hole trajectory
    • Sample collection, QA/QC of samples
    • Data management
  • Provide support to Mine Operations and underground geological teams.
  • Field Inspections including pre-setup, drill, post setup.
  • Other duties as required at discretion of Chief Mine Geologist / Senior Geologist


About You
  • BSc. in Geology, GIT preferred.
  • The ideal candidate will possess a minimum of 1 field season as a Geology Student.
  • Experience in a remote work site is considered an asset.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Ability to work as part of a team.
  • Geology background including sampling procedures.
  • Good computer software knowledge (Word, Excel, Mining/geology software, CAD software).
  • Ability to work in a multicultural environment.
