In 2021, BHP approved a CA$7.5 billion investment in Jansen Stage 1 in Saskatchewan, Canada, which is aligned with their strategy of growing exposure to future facing commodities in world-class assets. Potash opens a new front for growth and is an expandable resource that can support a century or more of operations. Potash provides BHP with greater diversification by commodity, country, and customer.

Purpose

Reporting to the Manager Finance – Potash Operations Readiness, the Specialist Finance - Potash Operations Readiness is focused on assisting and contributing to the delivering of the necessary financial systems, processes, and organizational capabilities to enable the Operational Readiness of a new asset – the Jansen potash mine.

Work Location

Downtown, Saskatoon office. 40 hours per week. Hybrid working (flexible, shared workstations and a combination of office and work from home) is standard for BHP.

About the Role

  • Assist in identifying, engages and manages a range of diverse internal and external stakeholders when it comes to Jansen operational readiness activities
  • Contribute to the development of finance specific operational readiness plans/schedules and deliverables, evaluates finance systems/procedures for compliance with standards and defines training/handover requirements to efficiently prepare the Jansen asset for operations
  • Collaborates with teams overseeing Jansen operations readiness while ensuring proper integration with the Jansen project execution team (collaboration includes engagements with Finance, Supply, Maintenance, Marketing, Human Resources, Production, and other Center of Excellence teams)
  • Contribute to the formalization of the fixed asset framework in line with Group Policy and embedment within the Finance function
  • Analyze capital spend in line with the fixed asset framework and ensuring all fixed assets have been appropriately identified, categorized, valued, and created (in accordance with IFRS and Accounting Policy) prior to the Jansen asset becoming operational
  • Employs specific/relevant finance expertise and leadership to meet BHP's technical 1SAP/(S/4HANA) and PRIME standards
  • Assists in the execution of business operational readiness activities for the Budgeting and Forecasting system go-live for the Potash Business, which includes; 
    • working closely with stakeholders to design and build the driver-based cost planning model in SAP Analytics Cloud
    • completing SIT/UAT execution
    • delivering all change management activities associated with deployment of the solution including end-user training
  • Builds strong stakeholder relationships both at practitioner and senior levels
  • Applies an understanding of the business context and end-to-end value chain to deliver value-maximizing opportunities when supporting the operational readiness of the Jansen asset
  • Holds internal and external teams to account and provides diligent management to control scope
  • Achieves the performance objectives of Operational Readiness, including cost and schedule targets
  • Support Potash Finance team’s commitment to diversity and inclusion, health & safety, environmental responsibility, and sustainable development

About You

Pivotal experiences for the role:

  • Minimum 3+ years’ experience in either Financial Reporting, Financial Accounting, or Finance Business Partner roles
  • Proven ability to influence others, solve complex problems, and proactively identify opportunities based on a deeper understanding and knowledge base of the Finance function
  • Operational experience within the mining industry experience is required
  • SAP and Budgeting and Forecasting system knowledge and experience is preferred
  • Project Management experience is highly desirable

 

Required:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance or Commerce
  • Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation is preferred
  • Written and verbal English proficiency
