Downer has been selected as preferred applicant to deliver Queensland Train Manufacturing Program (QTMP), the largest investment in new rollingstock in Queensland history. Design, build, and maintenance of 65 brand new trains, design and build of a train manufacturing facility on Fraser Coast of Queensland, design and build of a maintenance facility and a stabling yard in Ormeau. This is a huge boost to local manufacturing and supply chain.

We are seeking to appoint an experienced Human Factors Manager to join our team. As the Human Factors Manager, you will apply knowledge of human capabilities and limitations to the design, operation and maintenance of technological systems delivered Queensland Train Manufacturing Program. The Human Factors Manager will provide expert advice on human factors in support of the engineering safety and system assurance disciplines. You will also ensure that effective identification of human factors' risks and issues has occurred, as well as ensuring appropriate solutions to these risks and issues have been implemented across the life cycle of the project, from the design to construction, commissioning, and transition into operations to the satisfaction of clients and regulatory requirements.

In your role:
  • Provide subject matter expertise in human factors engineering, and human-centred design and interfaces within the Queensland Train Manufacturing Program,
  • Establish and ensure effective implementation of human factors in alignment with HF standards e.g., ISO 9241, 11064, 18529, EN 50126, and in particular AS 7470, including the development of the Human Factors Integration Management Plan.
  • Provide human factors support to risk assessment workshops where required, by ensuring effective identification of human factors risks and implementation of human factors design solutions to satisfy client requirements,
  • Engagement with stakeholders and regulatory bodies when required and participation in reviews, verification, validation and audits pertaining to implementation of Human Factors Engineering across the life cycle of the projects.
  • Conduct, lead and facilitate all related Human Factors activities under the Human Factors Management Plan and Human Factors Analysis.
  • Help support the delivery of Design Packages with input into the Human Factors' aspects of the design.
  • Support the development of safety risk management and SFAIRP arguments required for Safety and assurance cases, and undertake engagement with safety regulatory bodies,
  • Provide input into the development and update of maintenance/operational procedures/plans and participate in railway operational readiness activities, including but not limited to input into the training needs analysis, user acceptance testing, HF support during commissioning, verification and validation requirements, post-implementation review, collection of HF lessons learned.

What you will bring to the team:
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Factors Engineering, Ergonomics, Applied Research Psychology, or related field required; Master's degree in one of these fields is highly desirable.
  • Three years of related experience within the railway industry preferred.
  • Working knowledge of ONRSR regulations, disability legislations, Worksafe codes and practices.
