Located approximately 26 miles from the City of Fairbanks, Fort Knox is a centre of excellence for the Company as one of the few cold weather heap leach facilities in the world. Fort Knox celebrated its 25-year anniversary in 2021, and has produced over 8.5 million ounces since it began operation. In 2020, Kinross acquired Manh Choh - a project expected to commence production in 2024 and process ore at Fort Knox.

Fort Knox prioritizes being a strong contributor to the State and local communities, and since 2001, has helped support more than 300 community partners and has contributed more than US$25 million to the Alaska Mental Health Trust.

Job Description

Responsible for carrying out a full range of engineering functions including, but not limited to: development of an accurate mineral model, generation of mineable pit designs, analyzing equipment needs, managing multiple projects, creation of alternative mine plans, and evaluation of various operational scenarios with the goal of maximizing revenue. Must show the ability and willingness to supervise and develop other department personnel. Will have direct involvement and communication with staff from all departments.

Job Responsibilities

⦁ Develop accurate mineral model(s) for use in planning and reserve/resource calculations.
⦁ Design ultimate pits and intermediate phases based on mineral model and constraints such as mining limitations, slope design criteria, topography, and facility location.
⦁ Use pit design along with knowledge of mineral model and production constraints to generate a long-range plan that accurately predicts mining progress by period.
⦁ Review the preparation of short-term mine plans and schedules and make recommendations on the integration of those plans with the long-term and LOM plans.
⦁ Evaluate alternative designs and mine plans based on various operational scenarios with the goal of maximizing productivity and revenue.
⦁ Conduct equipment studies to verify that planned production goals can be met.
⦁ Make recommendations for opportunities that maximize efficiency and productivity of the entire operation.
⦁ Prepare resource/reserve estimations and annual technical report.
⦁ Generate mine planning and project management monthly summaries for use in company reporting.
⦁ Provide support, as needed, to other departments on monthly reporting.
⦁ Review designs of dumps, access roads, ramps, and mine site facilities.
⦁ Project management duties, including, but not limited to: contract review, bid award, cost estimation, schedule tracking, and reporting.
⦁ Supervise and train other department personnel to perform duties listed above.
⦁ Maintain accurate records and files.
⦁ Consistent exercise of discretion and judgment in job performance.
⦁ Punctuality and regular attendance is required.
⦁ Meet or exceed established performance expectations set by management.
⦁ Compliance with all company policies and procedures including, but not limited to, safety, confidentiality, and environmental policies.
⦁ Possession of a valid driver's license issued by the state.
⦁ Work safely in all areas and identify potential safety hazards and work with management to correct them.
⦁ Work without significant risk of harm to self and others.
⦁ Perform other duties as required.

Education and Experience

⦁ BS Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program (preferably environmental, civil, or mining).
⦁ Minimum of two years of experience in mine engineering or related discipline preferred.
⦁ Knowledge of engineering techniques as they apply to pit design, mine planning and equipment analysis required.
⦁ General understanding of open-pit mining operations, milling operations and mine maintenance.
⦁ Working knowledge and skill with P.C. utilizing word processing, spreadsheet, database and presentation software. Experience with MineSight and AutoCAD preferred.
⦁ Have a strong commitment to safe working practices.
⦁ Must have solid verbal/written communication and interpersonal skills.
⦁ Must be a self-starter with the ability to work independently and with others in a team environment.
⦁ Ability to function within the qualifications outlined in the attached physical demands sheets.
⦁ May work holidays, shift work, and weekends as required.

Skills

• Strong Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, database and AutoCAD software
