About Mount Milligan Mine

Located approximately 155 kilometres northwest of Prince George in central BC, the Mount Milligan Mine is a conventional truck-shovel open-pit copper and gold mine and concentrator with a 60,000 tpd capacity copper flotation processing plant.

Mount Milligan operates with comfortable camp accommodations equipped with private washrooms, TV, Wi-Fi, an onsite gym, and other recreational activities. Bus transportation to and from site is provided free of charge from several locations within the region.

Mount Milligan promotes a drug and alcohol-free workplace and has adopted a zero-tolerance policy with respect to alcohol or unauthorized drugs on site.

About the Opportunity

We have an opportunity for a full-time Environment Supervisor to join our Mount Milligan Mine operations site.

This is a camp-based position, with a rotation of 14 days on / 14 days off , with a 12-hour daily schedule.

Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
  • Being the main point of contact for the Environment Department with site operational department personnel, and developing working relationships with all site-based departments to instill a culture of environmental awareness and accountability through leadership
  • Supervising, mentoring, and coaching the Environment Department to ensure the completion of field programs, data management, environmental incident management, and reporting
  • Supervising the day-to-day activities of consultants contracted to the environment department
  • Supporting the development, implementation, and monitoring of the Environmental Management System to ensure the safe and efficient operation in compliance with existing permits, licenses, and other regulatory requirements
  • Implementing and effectively communicating environmental policies and standards across the site
  • Supporting internal and external reporting
  • Reviewing and overseeing project/site activity from an environmental perspective to achieve compliance with regulatory requirements and commitments with First Nations groups
  • Coordinating onsite environment monitoring and data collection
  • Identifying and mitigating environmental risks associated with project and site activities
  • Understanding and complying with environmental permits and regulatory requirements
  • Developing working relationships with all site-based departments to instill a culture of environmental awareness and accountability through leadership
  • Being a courageous safety leader with a commitment to Health & Safety, Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DE&I), and Cultural Awareness programs
  • Performing any other responsibilities related to the Environmental Supervisor role as required or as assigned by the department head
  • Actively participating in and helping lead site safety initiatives


About You

To qualify, you must have a Bachelor's degree or college technical diploma in Biology, Environmental Science or a related Natural Resources Management field , as well as 5+ years of related experience, preferably in a mining environment with leadership experience . Current registration or eligibility for registration in a professional discipline (e.g., R.P.Bio, P.Ag, P.Geo) would be considered an asset.

T he following skills and experiences will also be critical to successfully performing this role:
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Valid BC Mine Supervisor Certificate (or willingness to undertake training)
  • Valid Level 1 First Aid Certificate (or willingness to undertake training)
  • Industrial ATV/UTV and snowmobile operator certificates (or willingness to undertake training)
  • Pleasure craft operator card (or willingness to undertake training)
  • Strong technical writing and data analysis skills
  • Strong documentation and organizational skills
  • Demonstratable leadership experience with a focus on team development
  • Details and results-oriented with the ability to multi-task, and adhere to deadlines

Demonstrated familiarity with relevant BC and federal legislation and regulations (e.g., Environmental Management Act, Mines Act, HS&RC for Mines in BC, Fisheries Act) would be an asset.
