The Environmental and Sustainability (E&S) Practice focuses on collaboration with other service areas within Hatch to develop new business opportunities. We are currently seeking a passionate and motivated Environmental Regulatory Professional to assist us in growing our market share in Australia.

This is an exciting new opportunity to be the Impact Assessment Lead in the E&S Practice, based in our Brisbane office.

The primary objectives of this role are to:
  • Take a leading role in growing and delivering Hatch's Impact Assessment and Permitting service offering for our Australia and Asia Pacific (AUA) Region.
  • Provide subject matter expertise across a broad range of topics and across the life cycle of a project, including feasibility, planning approval pathways, environmental assessment, environment management and due diligence, with particular experience and expertise in Australian domestic (state and Commonwealth) ESIA and secondary approvals requirements on major projects.
  • Build client and internal relationships as a trusted advisor
  • Ensure high quality strategic and operational results are always provided to our project teams and clients.


The achievement of these objectives will be assisted by a passion for sustainability supported by strong communication and collaboration skills and taking an innovative approach to finding solutions to challenging issues.

The successful candidate will have strong technical expertise and Business Development experience with a desire to take advantage of this identified growth area within our organisation. You will have the opportunity to shape the future of the group, taking it to a new level, with the guidance and partnership of the Global Director Impact Assessment and Permitting, and AUA Regional Director, Environment & Sustainability.

Key Responsibilities:
• Win work and provide technical expertise and oversight to major projects, clients and multi-disciplinary project teams on state and commonwealth ESIA and permitting requirements
• As the pipeline grows, recruit and manage a small team of professionals providing ESIA and permitting, community and Indigenous engagement, and strategic regulatory advice in the delivery of major capital projects
• Manage and deliver impact assessments, permitting and other consents, including participating on due diligence studies for major infrastructure, industrial, mining and/or energy projects.
• Engage with clients and develop a strong sales pipeline
• Assist in the development of regional IAP business plans and budgets which will deliver the AUA E&S team's strategic goals.
• Assist in the preparation of supporting materials, including marketing and communication materials, professional papers, training documents and technical reports.
• Provide thought leadership in the impact assessment and permitting space to raise Hatch's profile at key regional conferences

We are looking for someone who is technically competent whilst also bringing with them solid leadership and people management skills.

The successful candidate will be based in Brisbane and will be responsible for leading the Impact Approvals and Permitting practice in AUA team.

Qualifications and qualities we are ideally seeking:
• Bachelor's/University degree in environmental planning, science, environmental science, environmental management, or a related discipline.
• A minimum of 15years of relevant experience.
• Certified Environment Practitioner (CEnvP) would be highly regarded.
• A Master's degree in a relevant discipline would be favourably considered.
• Demonstrated experience in ESIA and permitting in the consulting industry.
• Experience in building a successful sales pipeline and building a brand in an environmental consulting industry
• Engendering a style of management that encourages an ethos of excellence and a mindset of continuous improvement
• The ability to work in a multi-disciplinary and integrated team environment
• The ability to communicate with and manage people remotely using digital technologies
• Effective and open communication and presentation style and the ability to plan and deliver high quality reports
• An ability to be flexible, learn and perform challenging tasks that may be outside your area of skills and experience
• Experience with Commonwealth and Queensland and other Australian State legislation
• Experience with international standards such as the Equator Principles and the IFC Performance Standards

Experience in one or more of the following areas would be an advantage:
• Consulting in advisory projects
• Demonstrated client relationships
• Mine closure
• Construction and permitting experience
• Compliance and enforcement tracking
• Willingness to travel as work requires
