Barrick (Niugini) Limited (BNL) is a company incorporated in Papua New Guinea, and operates the Porgera Gold Mine in Enga Province on behalf of the Porgera Joint Venture partners. BNL is an independently managed company and is jointly owned through an equal partnership between Barrick Gold and Zijin Mining Group. The Porgera Gold Mine employs over 2,500 Papua New Guineans, and over the life of the mine it has contributed approximately 10% of Papua New Guinea's total annual exports.

Position Objective

We seek to recruit an experienced Procurement & Contracts Superintendent who will be a part of the Supply & Business Services team responsible for delivering quality results across Strategic Procurement, Purchasing and Local Business Development.

Reporting to the Supply and Business Services Manager, the successful applicant will be primarily responsible for strategic sourcing of all goods and services required by the operation with an annual spend in excess of USD 400m. Complementing the delivery of structured sourcing practices the Superintendent will negotiate and execute effective commercial agreements to ensure transparent and effective supplier relationships are maintained.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Ensure at all times that commercial activities are in constant compliance with the BNL Code of Business Conduct and Ethics;
  • Maintain a high level of health, safety and environmental awareness through visible felt leadership and demonstrated commitment to our health, safety and environment values;
  • Champion efficient, high quality, rapid & cost-effective procurement through contributing to the development and implementation of strategic sourcing strategies;
  • Maintain collaborative and effective relationships with internal stakeholders to ensure the needs of the business are understood and delivered upon;
  • Identify value enhancement, risk reduction and cost reduction opportunities through analysis, market research and supplier engagement;
  • Ensure the application of the BNL's Local Business Development program, this forms a fundamental part of BNL's license to operate and the identification and development of local suppliers is a key long term objective.
  • Leading the operational purchasing team to deliver effective support to the operations.
  • Development, execution and ongoing management of major goods and services agreements;
  • Conduct lifecycle cost and total cost of ownership analysis and take action on results;
  • Effective liaison with suppliers and the development of SRM (Supplier relationship management) metrics to support supplier performance.


To be suitable for this role, you will possess the following:
  • Tertiary qualified in a contracts, commercial or relevant technical field is required;
  • CIPS, IACCM or similar procurement qualifications and memberships are an advantage;
  • Must have a strong leadership background within supply and logistics and you'll have demonstrated experience working in the mining, construction or oil and gas industries.
  • Excellent communicator and influencer and someone who is familiar with mentoring and transfer of knowledge to local employees
  • Proven track record in strategic sourcing, contract management and general procurement with at least 5 years' experience is required;
  • Strong capabilities in spend and inventory data analysis with the ability to identify opportunities and actions;
  • Strong hands-on experience in the use of current ERP packages (preferably Oracle & SAP) is required;
  • Experience in a supervisory role in relative technical area.


Your primary location will be the Porgera Mine Site. T he roster is a fly in, fly out rotation on 21 days on, 14 days off.
