Job Title: Mining Engineer
Department: Engineering
Reports to (Title): Vice President, Engineering
Project / Location: Vancouver, BC (JDS Project Office), client offices, project sites
Role Summary: The Mining Engineer will support Project Managers by completing open pit and underground mine engineering, design, planning and operating & capital cost estimation. The Mining Engineer will be assigned to a multitude of projects, including technical studies ranging from desktop studies to NI 43-101 compliant technical reports, technical project and due diligence reviews and operational assistance.

Project site specific tasks:
- Convert Long Term mine plan into medium and short-range execution.
- Develop detailed mine designs and schedule/sequences (monthly, daily, weekly mining plans).
- Determine optimal stockpile use and inventory.
- Attend daily coordination meetings with production.
- Develop and optimize drill and blast designs.
- Perform monthly reconciliation of grade / tonnes.
- Complete monthly mine production reporting and comparisons to budget.
- Aid with labour and equipment planning. Develop waste dump schedules and dumping plans.
- Provide mining engineering and design services for underground and open pit mine studies, such as scoping, prefeasibility, feasibility, detailed design, and NI 43-101 technical reports. Prepare mining equipment specifications and assist with mining equipment procurement. Prepare technical specifications based on input received from other disciplines. Prepare and contribute to technical memos and reports, within areas of expertise. Prepare mining CAPEX and OPEX cost estimates. Design mine infrastructures, ventilation systems, backfill systems and mining services. Self-reliant and easily adaptable to change. Creative and innovative in providing solutions. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to make quality decisions.
Compensation
- Competitive compensation is based on actual hours of work performed.
- Compensation will be based on the experience of the applicant.
Work Schedule:
- Office work is generally performed at 8 hours per day, 5 days per week.
- Office work will not exceed 10 hours per day.
- On-site work is generally performed to a maximum of 12 hours per day.
- On-site rotational work is required and based on project phase.
- Travel time to/from a project site are paid from point of hire to a maximum of 8 hours per travel day.
- Travel costs to/from a project site are reimbursed.
- Time off will be accommodated with appropriate advanced notice to the Vice President. Vacation starts at two weeks per year and is included in hourly compensation.
- Additional un-paid time off is available based on project workload.
Qualifications/Experience/Education Requirements:
- Undergraduate or graduate degree in Mining Engineering (or related discipline).
- Registered P. Eng. in BC or other Province or Territory.
- Minimum 10 years of experience in open pit and/or underground mine engineering.
- Experience in underground sub-level and block cave mining methods is considered an asset.
- Familiar with NI 43-101 public disclosure and reporting code.
- Exceptional expertise with planning software, preferably Deswik, Vulcan or MineSight.
- Solid familiarity with AutoCAD and proficient in Microsoft Office 365.
- Ability to communicate with colleagues and clients in a professional and technical manner.
- Excellent written and spoken communication and presentation skills.
- Bilingualism would be considered an asset (English/French/Spanish).
- Able to travel across Canada and internationally.
