Job Description:
As a Mine Planning Engineer, you will play a crucial role in optimizing mining operations through the development and implementation of efficient mine plans. Working closely with cross-functional teams, you will utilize your expertise in mining engineering principles and software tools to design and evaluate mine layouts, production schedules, and resource utilization strategies.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with geologists, mining engineers, and other stakeholders to develop short-term and long-term mine plans that maximize ore recovery and minimize operational costs.
- Utilize mine planning software (such as Surpac, MineSight, or similar) to create detailed mine designs, including pit configurations, bench heights, haulage routes, and waste dump locations.
- Conduct feasibility studies and economic analyses to assess the viability of mining projects and evaluate alternative mine plans.
- Optimize production schedules and sequencing to meet production targets while balancing ore quality, equipment utilization, and workforce requirements.
- Monitor mine performance and analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) to identify opportunities for improvement and optimization.
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations, environmental standards, and company policies in all mine planning activities.
- Provide technical support and guidance to operational teams during the implementation of mine plans and production schedules.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering or related field; advanced degree preferred.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license or eligibility for licensure.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in mine planning and design, preferably in the mining industry.
- Proficiency in mine planning software and computer-aided design (CAD) tools.
- Strong understanding of mining engineering principles, including open-pit and underground mining methods, mine ventilation, and rock mechanics.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret geological data and engineering specifications.
- Effective communication and teamwork abilities, with a demonstrated ability to collaborate with diverse teams and stakeholders.
