Newmont Australian Operations are located in Western Australia, the Northern Territory, and New South Waltes with roles in operations, projects, and exploration. Regional Support is provided from our offices in Subiaco and Melbourne.

Our Opportunity

The Director, FP&A leads a team to develop regional business planning, including capital investment allocation, that maps to strategy, then monitor, analyse and report on the execution of those plans to ensure transparency and effective correction to meet business goals for operations, capital improvements and business developments.

This role increases the quality of planning, analysis, effective communication and decision making around all regional business performance issues. The role acts as part of a global team and contributes to global planning, analysis and standards.

Key Accountabilities include:
  • Manages the effectiveness of all business planning processes, optimizing the planning, monitoring, analysis and communication around:
  • The Forecast and Budget Planning process.
  • The Global Capital Investments and Value Management (IVM) program
  • The Australia Business Unit review process
  • Support the business growth and development process
  • Support the Business Plan Options Matrix Review process
  • The Planning improvement and implementation process
  • The Risk and Opportunity Impact Assessment process
  • The Change Management Impact Assessment process
  • Management of planning processes includes coordination with operating functions, providing analysis of plans, analysis of actual versus planned, assessment of risks and opportunities, and strategic impacts. Based on this, the position provides judgement and summarization of planning issues for discussion with regional and corporate management
  • Provide Technical expertise for due diligence and M&A activity through providing project management and business analysis that is refined into business recommendations and action plans
  • Provide advice and improvement assistance to major business units (including sites) and departments
  • Manage standards - assist in global business planning standards development and ensure standards are adhered to and processes perform optimally
  • Provide a key interface to the strategic planning function through quality feedback and working cooperatively to achieve a high degree of integration at site, business unit and corporate levels. Key areas of overlap include rate and rank activities, options planning and pushing through strategic direction changes
  • Provide analysis and recommendations on rank and rate and other prioritization of projects
  • Provide forecasting that identifies potential impacts to business plan guidance
  • Provide guidance and support specifically to the newly developed PNG Business Unit in the preparation of forecasts and budget plans.


About You

This role requires a broad knowledge of the entire mining and processing value chains. You will bring with you:
  • 15+ years in mining and processing industry
  • Broad understanding of all the operational and service functional areas that support the Newmont's mining business model, with in-depth expertise in many areas.
  • Strong business acumen with strong analytical skills to identify issues and problems and take advantage of opportunities
  • Project management competency and the ability to manager other Project Managers
  • Strong communication skills, able to influence and drive outcomes in all directions (up, across and down).
  • Effective leadership skills with the ability develop highly effective cross-organisational relationships and work effectively in an international and cross-cultural environment.
  • Change management skills around awareness and identification of impacts and integrating organisation change management into the context of business planning and changes to the business plans.
  • Preference is for a Masters or MBA but possibly a B.S degree in Business, Finance, Engineering or Geology with equivalent expertise and skills.


The position is preferably located at the regional headquarters office in Perth; moderate domestic and international business travel is required.
