About the Job:

In this remote position reporting to the Lead Mine Accountant, the Mine Accountant is responsible for providing functional planning, accounting support, site cost details and investigating variances. Providing direct assistance to mine site personnel for their cost reviews and evaluation.

Responsibilities:
  • Assist in budgeting, forecasting, strategic planning and development of final models.
  • Perform sensitivity analysis on planning scenarios and review with operational team.
  • Work collaboratively with the Mine Operational Departments in analyzing costs, trends, cost savings initiatives, and production reports.
  • Responsible for month-end duties including but not limited to, monthly cost review, journal entry preparation, statistics, reconciliations, and self-review of work to ensure accuracy.
  • Verify the accuracy and completeness of cost data.
  • Assess and pursue opportunities to improve the quality of cost reporting, evaluation, and presentations.
  • Participate in the internal and external audit process.
  • Assist in evaluation of authorization for expenditures, monitor AFE expenditures, keep record of any supplemental funds needed to ensure the project's successful completion.
  • Back up to various functions in the finance area, capital reporting, review of accounts payable costing details, and cost issue resolution.
  • Maintains accounting records in compliance with internal control requirements.
  • Leads and participates in special projects and tasks as required.


Required Qualifications & Skills:
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance preferred, BA degree in business or equivalent will be considered depending on experience.
  • 3-5 years' experience of accounting with a strong understanding of forecasting and budgeting.
  • Preferred consideration will be given to candidates with mining, chemicals, heavy industrial experience.
  • The expectation of this position is to work remotely with routine travel to the mine site required
  • Experience with large data bases, and proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Able to develop, maintain smooth, cooperating working relationships with other members of the accounting department and mine operating departments to ensure accuracy of costs and planification.
  • Reliable, self-motivated, proactive thinker with ability to manage multiple tasks (define problems and propose solutions).
  • Able to handle short deadlines with positive attitude.
  • Strong attention to details, ability to collaborate with multi-department teams and work in a fast paced, changing environment.
  • Experience in Oracle or other major enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems preferred.
  • Experience with Vena and Xeras desirable.

  • Remote work with occasional travel to site required. Qualified candidates should be within the Reno - Elko location or willing to relocate.
