PanAust Limited is an Australian-headquartered copper and gold producer in Laos, with pre-development and exploration assets in Laos, Myanmar and Papua New Guinea (PNG). The Company is focused on a sustainable business model associated with the production and sale of copper and gold, delivery of production goals and growth.

Phu Bia Mining's producing assets are the Phu Kham Copper-Gold Operation and the Ban Houayxai Gold-Silver Operation, both located in the Company's 2,600 square-kilometre. The company has a Mineral Exploration and Production Agreement (MEPA) with the Government of Laos which regulated exploration, development and mining activities within the Contract Area, and sets out the Company's tax and royalty obligations.

This position is based at our Ban Houayxai Gold-Silver Operation, located approximately 120km north of the Lao capital, Vientiane. Ban Houayxai is an open cut mine with a Carbon in Leach (CIL) process plant, producing approximately 100,000 oz gold and 780,000 oz silver annually.

The Role

The successful candidate for this role will be responsible for integrating the planning of the blasting and mining sequence and pit development for optimised delivery of ore to the process plant and waste to the waste dumps. Key aspects of the role are focused on integrated mine planning, delivering the right quality and quantity of ore to the mill through plans that link life of mine thought to daily planning:

• All mine planning inclusive of supporting Life of Mine at BHX and BHEX.
• All pit designs and tactical project designs and schedules.
• Drill and Blast planning and designs.
• Blast design for mill throughput, wall control and geological control.
• Mine production planning and integration with the business plan.
• Integration of mine to mill process each discipline.
• Deliver BIP plan and MPAP project.
• De-risking the low Au production profile in 2024- 2026.
• Generate the LOM plan corporate work with VTE Mine Technical Service.

The role will ensure succession planning of Lao personnel is planned and on track to meet objectives. The superintendent role will play a critical leading role in developing the open mine operating strategy in conjunction with the planning superintendent to meet business targets.

Functional Responsibilities

• Mining production analysis to understand areas for improvement and development production improvement initiatives.
• Pit designs and short term schedule to LOM plan.
• Responsible for full process LOM work.
• Mining budget and forecast including schedules, Equipment selection and requirements.
• Associated mining infrastructure engineering management e.g. stockpiles, waste dump and water treatment systems.
• Oversight and generation of daily , weekly , monthly and other reports as required.
• Training and development of subordinates.
• Develop section budgets and participate in mine budgeting process.
• De-risk 2024-2026 plan delivery.
• Integrate mine plan of BHX , BHEX and Underground ore resources into one mine schedule feeding BHX processing plant.
• Supportive pit optimisation and generating economic pit shell for BHX and BHEX mine.
• Identifying critical risks in the short and long term mine plans to put actions in place to minimize those risks.
• Implementing a continuous improvement approach to Mining operations and systems - effectively utilizing the Production Management System (PMS) processes to maintain maturity level 3+. Use of available metrics and reports for improvement measurement.
• Optimising the mine plan for high production and low costs.
• Ensure that blast design is consistent with ore control requirements of minimising dilution whilst optimizing fragmentation and geotechnical controls.
• Working closely with Mining Production and Geology to ensure effective ore extraction.
• Ensuring Acid Rock Drainage management plan is integrated into production planning (pit and waste dump)
• Technical Support Tailing Facility construction as required.
• Working closely with PBM drill and blast team for blasting improvement on final wall control
• Technical Support BHEX earthwork require.
• Mining unit cost control below $2.86/t.
• Studying the Pit stage7 waste stripping unit cost to inform pit stage9 optimisation.

Drill and Blast:

• Responsibility for the explosive magazine facility.
• Excellence in drill and blast engineering, optimizing fragmentation, performance reconciliation and improvements delivering high-quality blast outcomes;
• Blast fragmentation technical review and refinement through establishing and meeting agreed on outcomes of the blasting continuous improvement project;
• High performance of the wall control blasting at Stage7 (South pit)

Skills and experience

• Relevant tertiary qualification.
• Extensive site-based operational expertise and experience in SE Asia are highly desirable
• Minimum of 7+ years experience in a similar role
• Proficient user of MS Office software (Excel, Word, Project)
• Effective communicator able to demonstrate skills with senior executive managers and site-based personnel
• Excellent organisational and planning skills with an ability to multitask to meet agreed with deadlines.
• A team-orientated individual who contributes to a productive working environment using a collaborative approach
• Exceptional analytical capability coupled with an astute commercial focus and attention to detail
