New Porgera Limited (NPL) is a company incorporated in Papua New Guinea and operates the Porgera Gold Mine in Enga Province on behalf of the Porgera Joint Venture partners. The mine employs over 2,500 Papua New Guineans, and over the life of the mine it has contributed approximately 10% of Papua New Guinea's total annual exports. NPL offers experienced mining and associated professionals the opportunity to develop NPL's commercial capability but also assist in development of our national workforce.
About the opportunity
Reporting to the Manager - Finance, the Superintendent - Treasury, Tax and Compliance, this role is responsible for providing leadership, strategic direction and oversight for the Treasury, Tax and Compliance functions across our Porgera operations, ensuring alignment with business goals and contributing to the financial success of the business and compliance with all applicable financial policies, procedures and standards and reporting timeframes.
You will manage all statutory reporting including internal and external audits and the maintenance of SOX compliance alongside Treasury management including cash forecasting, managing cash calls and balances and loan administration whilst overseeing month end transactions from a treasury viewpoint and Bullion dore sales process.
Developing and maintaining key relationships with trading banks and the PNG Central Bank in relation to FX transactions, bullion sales and reporting is paramount to your success in the role alongside key relationships with the IRC and management of tax compliance, ensuring the maintenance of our Economic Benefit Sharing model and associate distributions.
The role is supported by an international and local team you will lead, mentor and develop, fostering a 'One Team' culture of accountability and results-driven performance in line with Barrick's core values.
Extended periods of travel to the Porgera Mine Site and other locations is required.
About you
To succeed in this role, it is expected you will have a relevant degree (Treasury, Accounting, Taxation) and CA/CPA qualification with demonstrable experience leading a Treasury & Financial Accounting function preferably in a mining environment, managing, mentoring and directing a diverse team, whilst building and maintaining productive relationships internally and with external parties including government departments, banks and auditors.
You must demonstrate a high-level understanding of all relevant legislation affecting the employment and safety of persons in the mining industry in PNG and have a natural inclination towards continuous improvement ideas and embracing of World Class standards.
An ability to communicate effectively across all levels and work closely with the local team is paramount combined with being comfortable reporting to parent organisations, JV partners and governmental and regulatory bodies.
