PURPOSE & SCOPE OF THE POSITION:
The Controller is responsible for professional and operations accounting functions in accordance with established corporate and site accounting policies and practices and in compliance with GAAP/IFRS in a staged working environment from construction and project phases into mining operations.
JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
•Develop and implement accounting systems.
•Supervise the following administrative and clerical functions:
o Payroll administration
o Accounts payable and receivable
o Checking of accuracy and completeness of repetitive accounting documents
o Coding transactions to appropriate accounts
•Review month-end journal entries, account reconciliation, and preparation and distribution of interim, monthly, and year-to-date business unit/object costs reports, including variance narratives.
•Assist in the preparation and development of financial and job cost analysis reports, annual/short/long term budgets (including Life of Mine), and forecasting - re-forecasting.
•Maintain accounting policy guidelines, procedures, internal control documents, and general ledger interfacing. Revise as appropriate.
•Review and approve bi-weekly payroll. This approval process includes 401(k) distribution, withholdings, wage and salary changes, and garnishments.
•Serve as the primary communication link to the company's Finance staff.
•Manage Cost and Operations Accounting activities.
REQUIRED EDUCATION, WORK EXPERIENCE & TRAINING:
•Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance or equivalent.
•Minimum of seven (5) years of demonstrated progressive experience in a professional accounting position, preferably in the mining industry.
•Working knowledge of budget preparation, payroll, accounts payable, production, and general mine/mill operations accounting procedures.
•Working knowledge of mining industry accounting policies, procedures, and practices is desirable.
•Compliant knowledge of GAAP/IFRS standards.
•Ability to meet deadlines and work with minimal supervision.
PREFERRED EDUCATION, WORK EXPERIENCE & TRAINING:
•Master's Degree is desirable.
TECHNICAL SKILLS:
•Advanced proficiency in preparing Excel spreadsheets and intermediate WORD proficiency.
•Experience with JDEdwards or other similar ERP systems.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
•Ability to listen to employees' suggestions and concerns.
•Responsible for communicating goals and information to the Finance department.
•Strong organizational skills with the ability to coach, mentor, and lead the Finance team.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
•Sedentary: Exerting up to 15 pounds of force occasionally and or a negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Involves sitting most of the time but may involve walking or standing for brief periods.
