Our Lihir operation in Mining Department is now recruiting for the position of Teacher Lihir International School / School To Mine for FIFO role based at our Lihir Gold Operation (LGO).

Reporting to Deputy Principal STM, you are required to deliver the School to Mine Programs which are written and delivered by the LIS / STM Teachers to assist local schools, nurture education on Lihir and also prepare young Lihirians for work in the business. Majority of the STM programs are for adults as such a background in adult education would be highly regarded. An understanding of PNG and the Australian Curriculum would also be advantageous.

The role will have responsibility to:
  • Contributes to the management of OHSE risk related to the Lihir International School / STMC by assisting in the identifying and assessing risks, implementing plans for reducing or eliminating risks and investigating and reporting incidents.
  • Monitors and observes student behaviour and STM equipment to identify and report safety hazards.
  • Plan and deliver the 10 Programs of School to Mine including adult based programs.
  • Prepare young Lihirians for work in the business through a Work Ready Program.
  • Prepares subject material for presentation to students according to an approved curriculum by researching relevant material and developing lesson plans.
  • Support students for preparation of both Year 8 and Year 10 PNG National Exams through a understanding of PNG Curriculum and examination processes.
  • Evaluates progress and determines individual needs of students.
  • Assist local schools and nurture education in Lihir.


Essential criteria

Ideally, our preferred applicant will have;
  • Accredited Education / Facilitator or Trainer Qualification or Certificate IV Training and Assessment.
  • Appropriate Qualifications to deliver Adult Training.
  • Teacher Registration.
  • 5-7 years of relevant work experience teaching Secondary and Early Adult.
  • Experience in teaching a variety of year levels *Note that this role will cover Level year 7- year 10 (but not limited to such) and will also cater to teaching early adults within the age group of 20-30)
  • Experience working with adults in an education setting.
  • Extensive experience in dealing and communicating with various stakeholders.
  • Extensive experience in planning and implementing programs
  • Extensive experience in working collaboratively in a team environment
  • Strong understanding of the Australian and PNG Curriculum.
  • Ability to cater to diverse learners.
  • Average knowledge using Microsoft Office programs
  • Willingness to involve in extra-curricular activities
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work autonomously from time to time.
  • High attention to detail with good time management skills.
  • Strong active listening & interpersonal skills
  • Certificate in Frist Aid.
  • Good understanding of current learning theory principles, practices and methodology.
  • Good understanding of individual and group learning principles, approaches and delivery methods.


The Requirements
  • Must be available for FIFO to Lihir Island, New Ireland Province
  • Ability to successfully complete a pre-employment medical assessment.
  • Must have proof of a completed Police Clearance within the last six months.
