Williams Operating Corporation - Barrick Gold located near Marathon in Northwestern Ontario presently requires a:

Mine Planner

Position Description:

As a member of the Mine Planning team, the successful candidate will report to the Senior Production Planner and work a rotational roster of 14:14, 12 hours shifts. This role will require an individual who is safety driven and safety conscious, and capable of working with a diverse team of technical services staff, underground operations personnel, production geologists, and other stakeholders.

Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will need to be highly motivated and have a proven commitment to workplace safety and leadership. They will have the opportunity to gain experience, and grow their career in the following areas:
  • Production planning (drill, blast, backfill)
  • Ventilation
  • Survey
  • Projects
  • Ground Control
  • Short-term and mid-term scheduling
  • Development planning


Key accountabilities regardless of work area are as follows:
  • Proven commitment to workplace safety.
  • Ensure effectiveness and safe productivity of the mine.
  • Work collaboratively with mine production and geology departments and assist other functional areas to achieve their objectives.
  • Facilitate conceptual meetings for mine design.
  • Collaborate with various departments to ensure practicality of designs.
  • Optimize ore recovery through safe and efficient mining.
  • Develop a good understanding of the underground operating conditions, in order to provide safe and reasonable recommendations regarding mine planning inputs.
  • Visit underground active mining areas on a regular basis.
  • Assist with updating mine planning standards and procedures.
  • Assist with special projects that arise as required.


Qualifications:
  • Bachelor of engineering in Mining, Mine Technologist or equivalent.
  • Registered or eligible to register as a Professional Engineer if holding a BEng.
  • Experience in an underground mining environment is an asset.
  • Experience with Deswik mining software is an asset.
  • Strong computer skills and proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to walk significant grades underground and lift 50 lbs.
  • Valid driver's license required.
  • Strong communication, computing, planning, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work in a team environment with geology, engineering and production personnel.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Organized, motivated self-starter with high standards expected of themselves and others.
  • Ability to work in a dynamic fast-paced mine production environment.
