Target:
This project is intended to investigate the possibilities of improving the operator interface for remote controlling of mining equipment.
Background:
Mines are perhaps one of the most hazardous and inhospitable work environments. Remotely operating machines and other systems has become more popular in the industry, mainly due to much higher level of safety and lower cost for infrastructure. Considering productivity and efficiency, remote controlling also has its challenges. It is hard to get an overview of the situation from far away with lower fidelity user interfaces.It can be difficult to operate a machine or do some tasks without being present.
Mission:
Your mission in this project is to explore how the future user interface for remote controlling of mining equipment. The expected outcome is a proposal how to solve today obstacles of remote controlling using a 2D screen.
Qualification:
To succeed in this project you shall have an interest in man-machine-interface (MMI), user interfaces, visualization technology, 3D real-time visualization technology and/or similar areas.
