About the role:

Reporting to the Senior Geologist Supervisor, the Geologist-In-Training is responsible for working with a group of specialists to support our mining operations. You will be enrolled in a development program which will include rotations in production, modelling, exploration, and pit geology.

To be successful in this role we require someone with excellent problem solving, interpersonal, and communication skills. We are looking for someone who has a strong focus on safety and personal responsibility and is self-motivated with a positive and adaptable demeanour.

In this role you will:

  • Participate in and adhere to health and safety programs and policies
  • Complete training to move into the pit Geologist or Coal Quality position
  • Train for progression to the short-range geology role
  • Approve loading instructions and blast cutoffs
  • Design and interpret in-pit exploration drilling
  • Interpret structural and stratigraphic geological information
  • Complete geophysical logging and sample collection
  • Build and develop field and Highwall maps
  • Provide coverage for exploration drilling supervision
  • Maintain quality tracking and coal blending
  • Complete inventory tracking and month end reporting


Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Geology or Geological Engineering
  • Registered, or eligible to register, with Engineers and Geoscientists of British Columbia
  • Valid class 5 driver's license
  • Previous work experience in a mining environment; previous experience in open pit, truck and shovel operations is an asset
  • Exploration experience is an asset

The actual base salary offered is determined based on the successful candidate's relevant experience, skills, and competencies and considers internal equity.
