ABOUT WESSELS

The South Africa Manganese operation can be found in the manganese rich Kalahari Basin, in the country's Northern Cape, which is home to 80 per cent of the world's manganese. This position is based at our Wessels Mine which represents one of the largest manganese reserves in South Africa.

ABOUT THE ROLE:

This role is a permanent full-time position.

As a superintendent ventilation , you will be responsible for managing staff, Mine ventilation planning, conducting workplace over-inspections, and investigations to identifying root causes within business processes and developing systemic solutions to eliminate reoccurrence.

Other key responsibilities include, but aren't limited to:

• Develop, implement and verify operational controls that would ensure compliance to Fatal Risk Control Standards and other South32 HSE requirements;

• Develop, implement and maintain an up to date risk register of catastrophic risks, preventative and mitigating controls and conduct inspections and audits to ensure execution of control measures to reduce and eliminate risks;

• Implement systems to review external incidents and conduct investigations into incidents on site to determine root causes;

• Conduct workplace inspections to monitor compliance to legal/statutory requirements and identify gap closing action plans with the intent of ensuring that risks are identified and appropriately addressed to retain license to operate;

• Provide in-depth analysis on HSE data and in conjunction with other business indicators to continuously improve HMM's HSE standards to achieve a zero harm organization.

ABOUT YOU:

You will have experience and demonstrate capability in the following:

• Must have a minimum of 5 years' experience in managing an Occupational Health and Hygiene Program and Ventilation network of an underground mine ;

• At least 2 years experience in a supervisory capacity and 12.1 legal appointee ;

• Extensive experience in an Underground Trackless Mining;

• Experience in ventilation simulation programmes (VUMA and/or VENTSIM)

Qualifications for this role are:

• Advanced Mine Environmental Control certificate;

• Btech / National Diploma in Environmental Health;

• Relevant registration with Ventilation and Occupational hygiene professional body.
