MAIN OBJECTIVE

This role involves the maintenance, repair and faults diagnosis of underground Heavy Mobile (with a bias on Epiroc machines) as well as auxiliary equipment, electrical systems and components. Reporting to the Foreman, the Auto Electrician is responsible for carrying out the daily maintenance of equipment, supporting and supervising local trainees in maintenance, and ensuring that assigned tasks are completed in accordance with the established schedule and budget, while strictly adhering to all safety regulations.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

The job holder will have the following responsibilities, among others:

  • Carry out inspections, servicing, repairs, and maintenance of heavy underground and surface mining equipment;
  • Diagnose electrical problems and recommend appropriate corrective actions;
  • Ensure that mechanical and electrical issues are resolved promptly and effectively to maintain equipment reliability;
  • Provide the Foreman with estimates of the time and cost required for repairs;
  • Ensure that scheduled and unscheduled inspections of equipment and the work environment are carried out in accordance with mine standards and procedures, and are properly documented;
  • Ensure the identification, assessment, and control of risks and hazards in accordance with applicable procedures, standards, and best practices;
  • Monitor the performance of local trainees and provide the Foreman with feedback on their performance.
  • Ensure that all team members under their supervision receive appropriate training in relevant areas, in accordance with the company’s training policy;
  • Complete work requests and submit them to the Planning Department within the required deadlines;
  • Maintain a clean and orderly work environment;
  • Carry out planned and unplanned maintenance activities in accordance with the instructions received;
  • Perform maintenance and servicing of automotive electrical components;
  • Apply knowledge of products, techniques, and processes to effectively carry out assigned tasks;
  • Implement continuous improvement strategies to increase equipment reliability and optimize workforce utilization;
  • Demonstrate creativity in evaluating and promoting new maintenance methods, processes, and technologies.

QUALIFICATIONS, REQUIREMENTS AND PERSONAL SKILLS

  1. Hold, at a minimum, a professional certificate issued by a recognized institution;
  2. Have at least five (5) years of experience as an Auto Electrician in a mining environment, particularly working on Epiroc equipment;
  3. Have a good knowledge of electro-hydraulic control systems, telematics, and semi-autonomous systems;
  4. Have basic knowledge of budgeting and spare parts inventory management;
  5. Possess strong analytical, problem-solving, and root-cause analysis skills;
  6. Ability to work on electrification and automation systems, as well as Smart Cab technologies;
  7. Ability to independently diagnose faults and carry out the necessary repairs;
  8. Ability to work effectively in a demanding, complex, and performance-driven environment;
  9. Be able to work on electric and hybrid machines;
  10. Have a good knowledge of regenerative braking systems;
  11. Have a strong command of automotive electrical and electronic systems.
