Position Description

The Barrick Africa & Middle East Team are seeking to recruit a Fixed Plant Equipment Strategy and Tactics Specialist for the region. The role requires solid Asset Management and SAP experience to co-ordinate and oversee activities in relation to operational readiness, development, enhancement and optimisation of SAP master data to support the asset management and capital project programs.

Responsibilities:
  • Manages, monitors and ensures adherence to Safety objectives and Zero Harm principles.
  • SAP master data management for all Fixed plant assets, and capital project operational readiness:
    • Manage operational readiness of key projects within the Africa Middle East region to ensure effective handover from projects to operations teams.
    • Ensure that all fixed plant assets' functional locations, asset structures, bills of materials and tasklists are set up in SAP with reference to root cause failure analysis, failure mode effect and effect analysis, original equipment manufacturers data packs and other relevant information.
    • Develop and review maintenance strategies and tactics, in consultation with the site teams, subject matter experts and regional discipline leads.
    • Define fixed infrastructure critical, operational and consumable spares as part of operational readiness. Material coding and inventory categorizing to support critical spares, strategic spares stocking in warehouse or vendor managed inventory holdings. Define budgeting requirements for critical Plant and Infrastructure Assets.
  • Medium to Long Term Asset Lifecycle Management:
    • Develops medium to long term Lifecycle Management Plans for critical Plant and Infrastructure aligned to Barrick's Business and Strategic Plan in conjunction with the relevant departments; disseminates and translates the medium-term plans into action plans to achieve set targets and goals, taking cognisance of Company policies/procedures, statutory requirements and ensures compliance by:
      • Setting performance standards/ requirements and objectives based on Barrick's medium- and long-term business plans;
      • Providing information and advice on Asset lifecycles and statistics in consultation with OEMs and benchmarking.
    • Controls the Asset Lifecycle Management Systems (SAP PM), taking cognisance of legislation, Best Practice Directives, confidentiality requirements and access criteria, by:
      • Benchmarking;
      • Defining specific objectives, allocating accountability to ensure the effective operation of systems and achievement of Asset Lifecycle Management and operation objectives;
      • Monitoring and evaluating systems performance and effectiveness, making remedial recommendations for optimisation;
      • Ensuring integrity of information and systems through constant monitoring of systems usage;
      • Liaising with Information Technology Department and contract managers of service providers to resolve systems related problems and enhance utilization;
      • Evaluating and satisfying customer needs;
      • Making recommendations and proposals for continuous improvement.
      • Continuously monitor the exchange and protection of information to ensure effective knowledge management according to organisational objectives.
    • Promotes measures and continuous improvement initiatives through best-in-class Asset Lifecycle Management practices to achieve and exceed cost saving targets.


Qualification Requirements:
  • Recognised Degree or Diploma in Engineering (Electrical or Mechanical) and/or Asset Management.
  • Membership of an appropriate Professional Institution / Professional Registration.


Experience Requirements:
  • 5 years post qualification work experience in the maintenance environment.
  • Previous Asset Lifecycle, Asset Maintenance Management experience essential.
  • Undergone recognized Maintenance management and planning training.
  • SAP PM experience.
  • Computer literacy essential.
  • Independent, proactive strategic thinker with strong problem solving and decision-making skills.
  • Analytical and presentation skills.
  • Written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to influence all levels of the organization.
  • Pro-active/self-starter.
  • Good understanding of project management.
  • Passionate about Asset Lifecyle Management.
