Position Description

Kibali Gold Mine seeks to recruit a Health & Safety Superintendent for the ARK Project mine expansion feasibility study.

The Health & Safety Superintendent will be responsible for leading the development, implementation, monitoring, and continuous improvement of the Project Health and Safety Management Plan. The role will support the safe execution of feasibility study activities, ensure compliance with Kibali, Barrick, contractor management, and regulatory requirements, and promote a strong safety culture across the project team, consultants, contractors, and field-based work groups.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Lead the implementation, monitoring, and continuous improvement of the Project Health and Safety Management Plan, ensuring alignment with Kibali site requirements, Barrick standards, contractor management requirements, and applicable legislation.
  • Provide professional health and safety leadership, advice, and guidance to the Feasibility Study Project Manager, project team, consultants, contractors, and field teams.
  • Support the safe planning and execution of feasibility study activities, including field investigations, drilling campaigns, contractor mobilisation, site visits, technical studies, risk reviews, and project readiness activities.
  • Drive the Journey to Zero programme and promote a proactive, visible, and accountable safety culture across all project stakeholders.
  • Participate in contractor tendering, evaluation, prequalification, onboarding, mobilisation, and kick-off processes to ensure safety requirements are clearly defined, assessed, and embedded in contractor execution plans.
  • Coordinate project safety inductions, toolbox talks, safety meetings, inspections, audits, and field engagements with contractors and project teams.
  • Monitor contractor and project team compliance with health and safety procedures, critical controls, risk assessments, permits, emergency response requirements, and safe work practices.
  • Lead, review, and support incident investigations, root cause analysis, corrective action tracking, lessons learned, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Track, analyse, and report health and safety performance, trends, risks, incidents, leading indicators, audit outcomes, and improvement actions to the Feasibility Study Project Manager and relevant stakeholders.
  • Maintain accurate and organised health and safety records, including reports, inspection findings, training records, incident documentation, action registers, and contractor compliance records.
  • Ensure effective communication and coordination of safety matters between the project team, operations, contractors, consultants, and other stakeholders.
  • Manage, coach, and provide direction to health and safety team members supporting the project.


Qualification Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Risk Management, Mining Engineering, Civil Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Post-graduate qualification or Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety will be advantageous.
  • Relevant professional registration, certification, or membership in a recognised health and safety body will be advantageous.


Experience and Skills Requirements

  • Minimum of 10 years' experience in health and safety roles within mining, major projects, feasibility studies, construction, or large capital project environments.
  • Experience in underground mining, mine expansion projects, contractor management, field studies, or project development environments will be advantageous.
  • Strong knowledge of health and safety management systems, mining safety legislation, risk management, critical controls, incident investigation, and emergency preparedness.
  • Proven ability to engage, influence, and build effective working relationships with project teams, contractors, consultants, operational stakeholders, and senior leaders.
  • Strong leadership, communication, facilitation, coaching, and interpersonal skills.
  • Analytical thinking with the ability to interpret safety data, identify trends, summarise complex information, and present clear recommendations.
  • Ability to develop and present detailed reports, dashboards, risk reviews, investigation outcomes, and management updates.
  • Ability to self-manage, prioritise competing demands, and manage multidisciplinary teams in a dynamic project environment.
  • Fluent in written and spoken English.
  • Computer literate, with proficiency in MS Excel, MS Word, MS PowerPoint, and MS Outlook.
