Job Summary

To provide technical support and advice to the global organization to ensure the effective implementation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of the Company H&S risk management system and to provide assurance that material H&S risks are well controlled. Supports the VP Global H&S to develop and maintain H&S policies, standards and procedures and establish strategic H&S objectives and performance measurement. Subject matter expert (SME) for H&S. The role is Toronto based but requires regular travel to work sites.

Key Responsibilities

  • Model company values and set the tone for a positive safety culture.
  • Promote and apply professional and ethical standards.
  • Support maintenance and improvement of the Company H&S audit program including audit procedures, budgeting, training, organization, scheduling, communications, contracting and continuous improvement.
  • Manage Kinross' health and safety risk registry, including direct collaboration with sites.
  • Works with Supply Chain to ensure appropriate H&S requirements are included in contracts.
  • Provide technical support and advice regarding compliance with Company policies and legal requirements.
  • Support coordination of internal audits, self-assessments, external reviews, and third-party assurance activities, ensuring findings, corrective actions, and risk mitigation plans are tracked to closure.
  • Support development and implementation of processes for monitoring, measuring, and evaluating H&S performance and to ensure that audit and assurance and follow-up work is completed in accordance with agreed plans, with high quality reports to senior management.
  • Facilitate or support project risk assessments, studies, and reviews to ensure safety is designed in at the earliest opportunity and critical risks are mitigated through sound engineering practices.
  • Facilitate site-level H&S risk workshops and risk assessments, bowties, critical control reviews.
  • Link H&S Risk Management program and assurance with Kinross' safety governance system.
  • Coordinate risk management approaches for all operating sites, projects and exploration.
  • Provide H&S coaching and mentoring to line management and H&S staff to build capacity.
  • Facilitate or participate in operational learning teams to improve the understanding of variability between work as planned and work as done.
  • Conduct site visits to verify correct application of Company H&S requirements. Provide recommendations for improvement when shortfalls identified and follows up on close out of actions.
  • Manage a Lessons Learned database for the Company and integrate into overall best practices.
  • Facilitate H&S risk management workshops and reviews to ensure quality is high.
  • Provide input to corporate enterprise risk management process.
  • Lead or participate in Company H&S audits and reviews.
  • Lead or participates in major incident investigations and provide root cause analysis expertise.
  • Maintain the enterprise H&S risk register, critical risk profile, and associated action tracking processes.
  • Monitor emerging risks, material risk exposures, and effectiveness of critical controls.
  • Keep up to date with the latest industry best practices and new safety technologies.
  • Ensure learnings and best practices are communicated effectively across the Company.
  • Ensure all required H&S training and certification is in place and maintained.
  • Conduct regular analysis of H&S data to identify trends and make recommendations for improvement.


Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in H&S, risk management, business administration or related field or equivalent experience with increasing levels of responsibility.
  • Experienced in planning, developing, organizing, and executing wide range of H&S programs with a proven record of accomplishment of delivery in mining or other high hazard industries.
  • Experienced in working collaboratively with all departments across a diverse organization, building strong working relationships and credibility at all levels.
  • Professional and discreet, with the ability to judge when information must be treated confidentially.
  • Have a hands-on approach and be a team player.
  • Prior Kinross experience considered an asset.
  • English essential, French, Arabic, Portuguese, or Spanish languages are an advantage.
  • Ability to function within the qualifications outlined in the attached physical demands sheets.
  • Experience with common risk management systems in mining such as critical risk management and bow tie risk assessments.


Compensation and Total Rewards

The base salary range for this role is $155,000 to $185,000 CAD plus a target Short-Term Incentive bonus of 25%, 15% (LTI) and group benefit coverage. The hiring range reflects our targeted compensation framework for the role. The actual offer will be determined through a comprehensive evaluation of each candidate's experience, capabilities, and potential impact, along with consideration of internal equity, team structure, and benchmark market data for similar positions. In addition to base salary, Kinross offers a comprehensive total rewards package designed to support employee well-being, performance, and long-term development.
