Position Objective
Mill Operations Support Engineer provides technical support to Rainy River Mill. The position bridges the gap between floor operators and senior management, focusing on optimizing equipment efficiency, solving day-to-day processing issues, and ensuring compliance with safety and environmental regulations.
The role requires strong ownership and initiative, with responsibility for identifying, developing, and executing projects from concept through commissioning, often based on real-time operational challenges and performance gaps. The Project Engineer is expected to deliver practical, field-driven solutions that improve reliability, throughput, and overall system efficiency.
A significant portion of this role involves hands-on operational support, including process optimization, system troubleshooting, and control strategy improvements. The role works closely with Operations and Metallurgy teams to analyze plant performance, resolve bottlenecks, and implement sustainable improvements that directly impact production.
The position plays a key role in strategic thinking and long-term planning, contributing to capital development plans, infrastructure upgrades, and system debottlenecking initiatives. The role requires the ability to evaluate technical and economic trade-offs, make sound engineering decisions, and provide clear recommendations that balance production, cost, safety, and other operational risks.

Key Responsibilities
- Process Optimization: Analyze daily plant data and process trends to increase throughput, maximize material recovery, and improve the overall efficiency of milling circuits.
- Troubleshooting & Maintenance Support: Act as the technical liaison between operations and maintenance teams. Investigate root causes of process disruptions, and production losses.
- Project Management: Design, budget, and manage continuous improvement projects and major maintenance or capital upgrades.
- Provide support for budgeting and cost control as needed.
- Safety and Compliance: Ensure all operations adhere to environmental, legislative, and corporate health and safety regulations.
- Training & Mentorship: Provide technical guidance to operational staff regarding best practices, new processes, and standard operating procedures.

Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related discipline.
- A minimum of 4-7 years of relevant experience is required.
- Certifications: Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation or Engineer-in-Training (EIT) status required.
- Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is considered an asset.
- Strong knowledge of mineral processing operations or manufacturing plant equipment and machinery.
- Experience with statistical process control and data analysis techniques.
- Demonstrated ability to interpret operational data and identify opportunities for process improvement.
