Mining Engineer/Surveyor

Mining Engineer/Surveyor wanted for an established and growing anthracite coal company.

Job Description:
  1. Create an atmosphere in your areas of responsibility that continually support the Company's operations.
  2. Assist in prospecting for and proving new potential reserves for quality, consistency, and quantity;
    1. Evaluate site relating to mineability and potential impediments.
    2. Assist in layout of exploration to maximize utility and control costs.
    3. Plot test results to provide cross sections and/or geologic model.
    4. Assist in evaluating results of exploration drilling and/or other exploration.
    5. Evaluate reserves estimates in relation to mine design and equipment selection.
  3. Assist in proving existing reserves for quality, consistency, and quantity.
  4. Evaluate all available data and coordinate with management and production staffs to prepare mining designs/plans. Provide field layout of mining design limits and ensure proper execution by Mine Foreman/field personnel.
  5. Prepare budget calculations and production schedules as required.
  6. Assist in surveying to lay out and locate production and exploration drill holes, conduct pit surveys, check/set operational grades and limits to comply with the mine plan and mining permit.
  7. Assist in conducting surveys of coal stockpiles and calculating volumes as required.
  8. Assist in preparing and maintaining production/cost data including pit survey volumes, equipment production, drilling & blasting costs, unit operations evaluations, etc. as necessary.
  9. Represent the Company at public hearings and meetings with any Regulatory Agencies and or local government bodies as necessary.
  10. Prepare Mining Permit applications.
  11. Assist in maintaining all required permits and approvals (renewals, revisions, Annual Bond Reviews, etc.).
  12. Prepare and submit MSHA permits and documents as required.
  13. Assist in developing reclamation plans to meet all applicable rules and regulations and to maximize the value of the property after mining is complete.
  14. Tour and inspect mine sites to ensure safe work practices and permitting compliance.
  15. Support adherence to mining laws and safety regulations, applicable rules and regulations for all Blaschak operations.
  16. Carry out all responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
  17. Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability, statistics, geometry, and trigonometry.
  18. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  19. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  20. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or scheduled form.
  21. Ability to effectively present information and response to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers and the general public.
  22. Assist other members of the Engineering staff as required.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree (B.S.) in mining, agricultural, or civil engineering, surveying or related field; or minimum of five years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Mining and/or surveying knowledge and experience.
  • Knowledge of college level chemistry and mathematics.
  • Self motivated with good organizational and communicative skills and the ability to work with people.
  • Possess project management skills.
  • Computer skills should include working in Word, Excel, and CAD, Terramodel, Carlson, or similar land modeling programs.
  • Practical knowledge of local, state and federal regulations governing mining, environmental, safety and plant operations.
