Purpose
The NGM Capital Superintendent is the site-facing capital finance and project controls leader for Nevada Gold Mines (NGM), accountable for capital planning, budget cycle support, forecast and actual capital reporting, project controls, capital portfolio data integrity, prioritization support, business case review, capital allocation policy alignment, and post-implementation evaluation across NGM's capital portfolio. Reporting to the NGM CFO on a solid line and to the Senior Manager - Capital Controls on a dotted line, the role is accountable to NGM site leadership for delivering reliable capital information and decision support, while aligning to North America Capital Controls standards, portfolio governance, reporting cadence, capital allocation policy, and templates through the dotted line. The Superintendent partners closely with the NGM CFO, General Managers, project owners, engineering, technical services, mine planning, supply chain, operations, and site finance to coordinate, challenge, and quality-assure capital submissions, schedules, contingencies, commitments, cash flow, and funding requirements across sustaining and growth capital where applicable. Key Duties & Responsibilities
NGM Capital Budget & Forecast Support
- Coordinate site and project capital inputs across NGM, including Carlin, Cortez, and other operating areas, and consolidate submissions for the annual capital budget and quarterly reforecasts.
- Validate capital assumptions, schedules, contingencies, phasing, commitments, cash flow, and funding requirements with project owners, engineering, mine planning, and supply chain.
- Ensure capital build-up methodology is applied consistently across NGM sites and projects, including unit costing, schedule logic, contingency treatment, and risk and opportunity provisions.
- Stress-test NGM capital submissions for deliverability, internal consistency, and alignment with operating plans, mine plans, and the North America capital allocation policy framework before consolidation by Capital Controls.
- Ensure NGM submissions and forecasts conform to standards, templates, and timelines set by the Senior Manager - Capital Controls, and feed cleanly into North America portfolio reporting.
Capital Portfolio Reporting
- Deliver monthly and quarterly capital reporting for NGM, including spend, commitments, accruals, phasing, forecast accuracy, and cash flow, with clear linkage to approved budgets and latest forecasts.
- Provide variance analysis against budget and forecast, with concise narrative on drivers, timing, scope, schedule, contingency draw, and execution risk for the NGM CFO, site leadership, and Capital Controls.
- Maintain a structured risk and opportunity register for the NGM capital portfolio, with quantified exposures, likelihoods, and mitigation actions, and ensure these flow into reporting and forecasts.
- Track forecast accuracy across NGM sites and projects, identifying systemic forecasting weaknesses and embedding improvements in methodology and assumptions.
- Translate NGM capital reporting into clear narratives, charts, and recommendations tailored to site, joint venture, and North America Capital Controls audiences.
Capital Controls & Governance
- Support authority-to-spend, change controls, and approval thresholds for NGM capital, ensuring decisions are documented, traceable, and within delegated authorities.
- Maintain WBS, project master data, project coding, and capital structure standards across SAP / ERP, OneStream, and project planning tools, ensuring consistent hierarchy and reporting alignment.
- Ensure NGM capital execution remains within approved scope, schedule, cost, and funding parameters, escalating deviations and recommending corrective actions to the NGM CFO and Senior Manager - Capital Controls.
- Apply North America Capital Controls standards, capital allocation policy requirements, and governance protocols to NGM's capital portfolio in coordination with the Senior Manager - Capital Controls.
- Support internal control, audit, and assurance reviews on NGM capital expenditure, providing data, walkthroughs, and remediation actions as required.
Prioritization & Portfolio Support
- Support ranking, sequencing, deferral, and acceleration decisions across the NGM capital portfolio, balancing value, risk, strategic fit, execution readiness, and funding constraints.
- Help quantify the value and risk impacts of portfolio rebalancing options at NGM, providing decision-grade analysis to the NGM CFO, General Managers, and the Senior Manager - Capital Controls.
- Apply prioritization criteria, scoring frameworks, and ranking methodologies set within the capital allocation policy framework to NGM submissions.
- Identify portfolio-level optimization opportunities at NGM, including bundling, sequencing efficiencies, shared infrastructure, and cross-site capital synergies.
Business Case & Capex Evaluation
- Evaluate and review NGM capital expenditure business cases, including alternatives considered, NPV, IRR, payback, free cash flow, and capital intensity where relevant.
- Challenge underlying assumptions including production, grade, recovery, unit costs, capital estimates, schedules, commodity assumptions, FX, and discount rates with project owners and technical services.
- Assess execution readiness, project maturity, contracting strategy, resource availability, and funding implications as part of business case review.
- Provide an independent finance view on strategic fit, value preservation, and risk-adjusted economics, supporting stage-gate, site, and capital committee decisions.
- Apply consistent evaluation standards, templates, and economic conventions issued by the Senior Manager - Capital Controls across all NGM capital business cases.
Post-Implementation Evaluation & Benefits Realization
- Coordinate post-implementation reviews and post-completion reviews of NGM capital projects, comparing actual outcomes against approved business cases.
- Track benefits realization across NGM capital projects, including production, cost, recovery, throughput, and economic benefits committed in the original business case.
- Document lessons learned, drivers of variance, and accountability for outcomes, ensuring findings feed into future NGM capital planning, assumption-setting, and prioritization.
- Surface systemic patterns - estimating bias, schedule optimism, scope creep, contingency adequacy - and partner with the Senior Manager - Capital Controls on remediation through standards, training, and process change.
Site Partnership & Stakeholder Engagement
- Act as the primary capital finance partner to the NGM CFO, General Managers, and project owners across Carlin, Cortez, and other NGM operating areas.
- Partner with engineering, technical services, mine planning, supply chain, and operations on capital scoping, estimating, scheduling, contracting, and execution.
- Engage site finance, project accountants, and capital analysts to challenge submissions, validate assumptions, and align financial outputs with operational and project intent.
- Coordinate with the Senior Manager - Capital Controls and broader North America FP&A on portfolio governance, reporting cadence, capital allocation policy, and consolidation.
- Represent NGM Capital Controls in site forums, project governance bodies, and joint venture reviews where required.
Reporting, Systems & Data Integrity
- Champion the use of SAP / ERP, OneStream, Xeras / project planning tools, Power BI, Tableau, and advanced Excel to enhance the speed, depth, and quality of NGM capital reporting and analysis.
- Own NGM capital data integrity across source systems and management reports, including reconciliations between SAP / ERP, OneStream, and project planning tools.
- Maintain WBS, project master data, project coding, and capital structure standards for NGM in line with North America Capital Controls requirements.
- Support accruals, capitalization, and period-end close activities for NGM capital, partnering with site finance, accounting, and the broader FP&A team.
- Identify and drive system, model, and data improvement initiatives that automate recurring capital outputs, improve data integrity, and reduce manual effort at NGM.
Team Leadership & Capability Development
- Lead, coach, and develop the NGM capital team, including NGM capital analysts and Carlin and Cortez capital accountants, building bench strength, succession, and a high-performing culture.
- Set clear performance expectations, deliverables, and standards; foster accountability, urgency, ethical behaviour, and continuous improvement.
- Review team outputs for accuracy, completeness, and decision-grade quality before issue to site leadership, the NGM CFO, and the Senior Manager - Capital Controls.
- Embed best practice and consistent ways of working across NGM capital reporting, controls, and evaluation, in alignment with North America Capital Controls standards.
Ad Hoc Analysis & Projects
- Support ad hoc capital analysis, business cases, and option evaluation for the NGM CFO, site leadership, and the Senior Manager - Capital Controls, including capital allocation, portfolio rebalancing, and value-creation initiatives.
- Ad hoc analysis and projects as determined by the NGM CFO, site leadership, and the business' needs to deliver on its objectives.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Commerce, Engineering, Project Management, Mining Engineering, or a related field required.
- CPA, CMA, CIMA, MBA, or PMP preferred.
- 7-10+ years of progressive experience across capital controls, project controls, finance, FP&A, mining finance, project accounting, project evaluation, or capital portfolio management.
- 2-3+ years of leadership or supervisory experience preferred, ideally leading small site-based capital, project controls, or finance teams.
- Mining, metals, heavy industrials, or capital-intensive, site-facing environment experience strongly preferred, with familiarity with sustaining and growth capital and multi-site operating models.
- Demonstrated experience supporting capital planning, capital controls, project controls, business case evaluation, variance analysis, and governance in a complex operating environment.
- Hands-on proficiency with ERP, planning, and BI platforms (SAP, OneStream, Power BI, Tableau preferred), project planning and capital evaluation tools (e.g. Xeras), and advanced Excel-based financial modeling.
- Track record of delivering decision-grade capital reporting, business case reviews, and post-implementation evaluations to site leadership, CFO, and capital committee audiences.
