Principal Mining Consultant
Principal Mining Consultant
Amplify Mine Planning | Remote (US) or Centennial, CO office | Full-Time
Exceptional candidates in Canada or Brazil will also be considered.
About Amplify
Amplify is a mine planning consultancy built by engineers who came up through operations. Since 2021 we've grown from one person to 14, at a 67% compound annual growth rate. We're headquartered in Centennial, Colorado, with consultants across the US, Canada, and Brazil. Every consultant on our team is Senior or Principal level. Clients like Agnico Eagle, Equinox Gold, Freeport-McMoRan, Kinross, Pan American Silver, Vale Base Metals, South32, and Wesdome trust us with, feasibility studies, reserve statements and the planning decisions that move mine value.
The Role
You're the person a client calls when the mining method question is hard. You've lived it at site, you can still drive the software yourself, and you lead technical work from scoping to delivery. You'll work alongside former superintendents, chief engineers, and software specialists, as a peer from day one.
Why Principals Join Amplify
- A peer team, not a pyramid. There's no army of juniors to babysit and no partner taking credit for your work. You do the engineering, your name is on it, and the person reviewing it has done it at site.
- Engineering, not admin. Dedicated operations support and internal systems handle invoicing, formatting, and reporting busywork. You spend your time on mine plans.
- The best tools, and people who push them. We were the first consultancy in the world to adopt Deswik.APEX. You'll have the full Deswik suite (including Stope Optimizer, Deswik.GO and APEX), plus VentSim, XERAS, and Datamine, as needed.
- Work that matters. Recent work includes mine planning for Feasibility Studies such as NioCorp's Elk Creek Feasibility project, variable cutoff and sublevel spacing optimization for a silver skarn, reserve statements for producing gold mines, and underground due diligence for a precious metals investor.
- A sustainable year. We plan around ~1,470 billable hours and 6 weeks off. Travel is typically 3 to 4 weeks a year: our team retreat, one conference, and a week or two on site.
- Your choice of workplace. We're remote-first and always will be. No return-to-office mandates, ever. If you're in the Denver metro, there's a desk waiting for you at our Centennial office whenever you want the collaboration (or just a change of scenery). Either way, we get together for retreats (skiing in Winter Park, cenotes in Mexico) because we genuinely like each other.
What You'll Do
- Lead technical workstreams on PEA, PFS, FS, and life-of-mine studies, open pit and/or underground
- Own mining method selection, trade-off studies, and the productivity and cycle-time basis behind them
- Do the work, not just direct it: design, schedule, and optimize hands-on
- Peer review the work of other consultants
- Grow your client relationships into continuations and new work, and contribute to proposals and scoping with support from leadership and operations
- Support Mineral Reserve work, with a path to QP sign-off
What You Bring
- 10+ years of mine planning and mining engineering experience, with meaningful time at operating mines (planning engineer, senior or chief engineer, superintendent, or similar)
- Deep expertise in at least one mining method family, such as longhole or sublevel stoping, cut and fill, caving, or large open pit
- Solid hands-on software skills. Deswik strongly preferred; Hexagon, Datamine, Vulcan, or Micromine also valued
- Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering
- PE, P.Eng, or equivalent. QP status (or eligibility) under S-K 1300 or NI 43-101 strongly preferred
Nice to Have
- Deswik.GO, Deswik.APEX, stochastic planning, or Direct Block Scheduling experience
- Cost modeling, ventilation modeling, or cave flow modeling
- Spanish, Portuguese, or French
What This Is Not
- A "manage the juniors" job. There aren't any.
- A pure delivery role. Principals help grow the business, with a goal of bringing in roughly a third of their own billable hours each year. Most of that comes the way it should: doing great work and winning the next phase with the same client. We'll support you with proposals, pricing, and operations help.
- A place where you sign what you didn't check. Every deliverable gets internal peer review.
Growth Path
Clear criteria to Senior Principal: QP sign-off, study leadership, and winning work through your network.
Compensation
Base salary: $135,000 to $155,000
Total annual compensation: typically $175,000 to $190,000, including:
- Profit share: Last year's payout averaged over $30,000 per consultant.
- 401(k) with a 5% company match
- $150/month home office reimbursement, if working remotely
- Licensure, professional dues, and professional liability coverage fully paid by Amplify
- Health, dental, and vision insurance
- Flexible PTO
How We're Hiring
We're building our bench at the Senior, Principal, and Senior Principal levels, and we expect to hire 1 to 3 consultants over the next 6 months. If you're stronger or earlier in your career than this posting, apply anyway and we'll calibrate together.
To Apply
Email your resume to careers@amplifymineplanning.com with "Principal" in the subject line. Skip the cover letter. Instead, in 3 or 4 sentences: tell us: What draws you to Amplify, specifically, over the other places you could take your experience.
What you'd bring to the team that we don't already have: a mining method, a skill, a client network, a way of working.
What you want from the team in return. Who do you want to learn from, and what do you want to be doing in three years?
We read every one. The specific answers stand out.
Applications reviewed on a rolling basis through December 6th, 2026.
