Position Description
Kibali Gold Mine seeks to recruit a Project Mechanical Engineer for the ARK Project (Feasibility Study). The Project Mechanical Engineer will be responsibleto provide professional mechanical engineering design and project management services for the feasibility study of the project. The role will ensure that fixed plant and mobile equipment systems are designed for safe operation, high reliability, maintainability and optimal lifecycle cost.
You will be expected to align to the Barrick DNA and to operate within our mining assets with our best people teams. Working closely with the project, operations and maintenance teams, the incumbent will evaluate process plant layouts, equipment selections and engineering designs to ensure practical and sustainable solutions that support long-term operational performance.
Candidates with a strong maintenance, reliability engineering or operational background who can influence engineering design decisions to improve equipment reliability and maintainability will be highly regarded.

Duties & Responsibilities
- Provide mechanical engineering support and technical leadership during the feasibility study and project development.
- Review process layouts, equipment selections and engineering designs to ensure operability, maintainability and reliability requirements are incorporated.
- Develop and review mechanical design criteria, equipment specifications, datasheets and technical standards.
- Prepare and review engineering studies, CAPEX estimates, operating cost assessments, contract works and business cases.
- Conduct technical evaluations of major equipment and participate in supplier selection and bid evaluations.
- Ensure reliability, availability and maintainability (RAM) principles are incorporated into plant and equipment design.
- Review engineering calculations, 3D models, manufacturing drawings, finite element analyses, and technical data packages.
- Support development of maintenance strategies, critical spares requirements and operational readiness plans.
- Ensure compliance with applicable engineering standards, statutory requirements and project specifications.
- Identify opportunities to improve safety, reliability, maintainability and lifecycle cost through technology and engineering best practices.
- Prepare, review and negotiate contracts.
- Plan and manage budgets.
- Develop and implement a quality management system with associated quality control programs.
- Provide direction on mechanical scope and requirements to the suppliers based on specifications included in the procurement agreement.
- Ensure that manpower, equipment, tools, materials and design necessary to support the project schedule will be available.
- Drive a common spares strategy to ensure that common spares can be utilised between existing operations and for the expansion project.
- Perform structural and mechanical design verification in accordance with relevant international codes and standards.
- Review business cases for application for expenditure of capital.
- Stay abreast of developments in technology and find application of this technology on the operation to reduce cost, increase uptime and improve safety.
Qualification Requirements
- A Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- Registered Professional Engineer.
Experience and Skills Requirements
- Minimum of 8 years' experience in Mechanical Engineering.
- Experience in the mining industry, with a focus on feasibility studies and capital project execution.
- Computer Skills - must have strong computer skills and proficient in Microsoft Office software (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Projects, and Outlook). Other engineer software package experience will be advantages.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
- Strong practical knowledge of mining fixed plant and mobile equipment, including crushers, conveyors, mills, flotation equipment, pumps, gearboxes, motors, mining shovels, haul trucks and maintenance infrastructure and facilities.
- Demonstrated experience in maintenance, reliability engineering or asset management.
- Understanding of reliability, availability and maintainability (RAM) principles and lifecycle cost optimization.
- Strong technical, analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
