  • The Reliability Superintendent – Process Plant Maintenance is responsible for leading the site reliability function to improve plant performance, reduce equipment downtime, and optimize life cycle asset costs.
  • This role focuses on implementing advanced reliability practices, defect elimination processes, and predictive maintenance techniques to support safe, sustainable, and cost-effective operations.
  • The position plays a key leadership role in developing the reliability team and embedding asset management principles across the fixed plant maintenance organization.
  • Postgraduate qualifications in Reliability, Asset Management, or Maintenance Engineering.
  • Certified training in vibration analysis, thermography, or ultrasound.
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary teams in large-scale processing plants.
  • Six Sigma, Lean, or Continuous Improvement certification.

TASK DESCRIPTION EXPANDED TO CORE PERFORMANCE AREAS

  • Lead the site reliability and condition monitoring programs across all fixed plant assets.
  • Manage and interpret data from vibration analysis, thermography, ultrasonic testing (UT), oil analysis, and laser alignment to predict failures and optimize maintenance intervention timing.
  • Ensure condition monitoring data is integrated into the CMMS and used to inform work planning and asset health reporting.
  • Develop predictive maintenance strategies aligned with operational and cost objectives.
  • Champion the use of predictive and preventive maintenance to reduce cost of ownership and improve asset reliability.
  • Establish and lead the defect elimination process to identify, investigate, and eliminate recurring equipment failures.
  • Facilitate structured RCA investigations to determine root causes and develop sustainable corrective actions.
  • Maintain an active defect register, track closure rates, and ensure lessons learned are embedded into maintenance and operational practices.

knowledge and skills

Formal Education, Certifications or Equivalents

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, or trade background with extensive experience. Condition monitoring & reliability certification

Working Experience – Nature & Length

  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in mobile maintenance within mining or heavy industry.

Technical Skills

  • Proficiency in CMMS (SAP, Pronto, or equivalent).
  • Extensive knowledge of condition monitoring & reliability principles.
  • RCA experience and defect elimination processes ISO 55000 asset management standards
  • Demonstrated ability to lead planning and reliability teams in a large-scale operation.
  • Manage component life tracking and forecasting for all major mobile equipment (e.g., engines, transmissions, final drives, hydraulic systems).
  • Coordinate the component rebuild and replacement programs, ensuring adherence to OEM specifications, cost control, and quality assurance. Interpret condition monitoring data.
  • Understand OEE, MTBF & MTTR principals. Understand Pf interval curve.
