Phu Bia Mining Limited is a Lao-registered company, 90 per cent owned by PanAust Limited, an Australian-headquartered copper and gold mining company, with the Government of Laos owning the remaining 10 per cent. Phu Bia Mining owns and operates two award winning operations - Phu Kham Copper-Gold and Ban Houayxai Gold-Silver, both located in Xaisomboun Province, 120km north of Vientiane.

Reporting to the Mine Superintendent, your role is accountable for the delivery of mine planning, scheduling, stope and development design, ground support, ventilation, drill and blast, backfill, dewatering, and geotechnical engineering across the underground operation, applying sound senior engineering judgement to deliver safe, efficient, and optimised outcomes. The role provides technical leadership to the underground engineering team and acts as the primary technical authority for underground mine engineering.

The role provides technical leadership to the underground engineering team and acts as the primary technical authority for underground mine engineering.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Lead and own the development and maintenance of medium and short term mine planning and scheduling, including level extraction plans, stope notes and 13 week rolling plans
- Lead mine development and production design and oversee implementation activities, providing technical direction and sign-off on engineering deliverables
- Lead and represent mine engineering within the project management team, setting clear team objectives and driving accountability across the engineering function
- Own and direct drill and blast design and optimisation for development and production blasting, including blast design, explosive selection, initiation sequencing, reconciliation, setting standards and driving continuous improvement in cycle efficiency and fragmentation outcomes.
- Own and direct the design and management of underground mine services infrastructure including power reticulation, compressed air, materials handling, and logistics
- Own and direct Ventilation design, ensuring designs meet standards required for ventilation quantities, heat management and particulate management
- Own and direct underground dewatering and water management strategies, including pump system design, sump management, pipe line designs, pressure management
- Design and optimise stope extraction sequences and methods using detailed stope notes, including consideration of stope sizing, dilution control, ore recovery, pillar design and scheduling of extraction, backfill plans and ore recovery targets are met
To be successful in this role, you will require:
- Degree qualification in Mining Engineer and/or related field
- Extensive working experience as a senior engineer for an operation underground mine with base metal
- Proficient in mining software such as Deswik CAD, Deswik Sched, Deswik SO, MineSched, Surpac and others
- Proven experience in short term and medium term mine planning for an underground operation mine is essential
- Strong commitment to training and supporting the growth of Lao National employees
