Introduction to Bisha Mining Share Company

BMSC is an Eritrean company formed for the development and operation of the Bisha Mine in western Eritrea, Africa. The Bisha Mine is a high-grade copper, gold, silver and zinc mine that commenced production in February 2011. The Bisha Mine has received continuous support from the Eritrean government, who granted the Company's mining license in January 2008. The project is the first modern mine in Eritrea.

After two years of low-cost gold production, the Bisha Mine transitioned to low-cost, high-grade copper production in 2013. Starting in 2016, Bisha also produces zinc concentrate. Further resource potential exists at depth and from nearby discoveries within the Company's licensed areas.

The site is a well-established site with excellent catering and recreational facilities. The site also offers Wi-Fi internet coverage throughout the village as well international TV and a full gymnasium. Security ranks with best in the world and employees mountain bike freely. Expatriates work a roster of 6 weeks on and 3 weeks off; we offer on-site medical services as well as company medical, accident death and disability and life insurance (employee only); Employees are provided with private rooms with en-suite toilet and shower facilities; Working hours at Bisha are Monday to Saturday from 6am to 6pm with a one-hour lunch break and Sundays from 6am to 12pm with the afternoon off.

The successful candidate will earn a salary which is market related. Contract is for a period of 02 (two) Years.

Primary Purpose

  • To manage and coordinate all day-to-day facets of the mining load and haul operation.
  • To effectively support the operational requirements in a safe and cost effectively manner.
  • Knowledge transfer and mentoring is a must in this role to Engineers, Supervisors, Crew Leaders and all Operators.

Essential Function

  • Ensuring that mining operation outcomes are met through a safe, effective with efficient utilization of resources (human and capital), in accordance with company objectives.
  • Accountable for delivering individual and team production targets, coaching and mentoring the team members for continuous improvement.

TASK DESCRIPTION Expanded TO CORE PERFORMANCE AREAS

Safety, Health & Environment

Task Description.

  • Actively promoting, coordinating and supervising responsible work practices including maintaining a high standard of housekeeping at all times and providing feedback on Safety, Health and environmental matters
  • Ensure all safety performance measures are achieved
  • Demonstrate visible safety leadership.
  • Housekeeping maintained at a high standard within your area.
  • Constantly look to identify hazards and risks through your daily inspections.
  • Ensure all incidents are reported in accordance with the Incident Notification, Recording, Investigation and Reporting Procedure.
  • Ensure equipment is used in accordance with its design parameters and correct operating techniques.
  • Ensure geotechnical hazards and/or potential geotechnical hazards are reported immediately to the Technical Services geotechs.
  • Helping others to work safely through support and good example and not accepting behaviours which could cause harm.
  • Identifying and immediately reporting, and controlling where possible, any incident, personal damage (injury), hazard or environmental damage you see at work.
  • Play an active role in all incident investigations to ensure the root causes are identified and where applicable, work practices adjusted accordingly.
  • Ensure you are familiar with and conform to the Environmental Management Plan.
  • Maintaining a duty of care to self and others and insist that work is stopped if you think it is not safe.

Task Description.

  • Conduct communication meetings and contribute to the sharing of knowledge and information to the national workforce.
  • Demonstrate leadership and encourage personal behaviors that will uphold Bisha’s Core values.
  • Have regular performance tracking discussions, listen to team member’s improvement ideas and provide constructive feedback.
  • Identify resource and skill gaps for team members. Advise and input to the training plan.
  • Supervise personal work performance to ensure clear, challenging and measurable goals are set and are achieved.
  • Optimize performance by ensuring all understand their position purpose, key accountabilities, performance requirements and that these align with individual skill and capability to produce quality outcomes through applied coaching and feedback.
  • Support and mentor National employees as required.
  • Contribute to teamwork and personal development plans for National employees and be willing, able to mentor and manage the GET rotation program as per the plan.

  • Work with Section Superintendent to establish KPI’s, Job Performance goals for the Performance of enhancement and Process.
  • Monitor individual performance and provide coaching and feedback on a regular basis or when required.
  • Monitor Leave to ensure appropriate manning levels are maintained at all times.
  • Contribute positively at meetings.
  • Lead, demonstrate and educate employees to embrace a work environment free from discrimination where everyone is included and treated with respect.

Productivity

Task Description Operations.

  • Supervision of mining operations including management and mentoring of L&H Engineers, Supervisors, Crew leaders and all operators.
  • Act In Mining Superintendent role as directed
  • Be accountable for the development and mentoring of non-Bisha employees (GETs) program
  • Comply with and enforce the requirements set out in all Standard Operating Procedures
  • Perform inspections within the mining operations to ensure compliance to mine design and civil works projects.
  • Ensure non-conformances are communicated to the relevant personnel for implementation of immediate corrective actions. When operational changes may be required due to either design non-conformance or operational issues ensure that the change is effectively communicated to all relevant stakeholders
  • Champion operational quality control of battering and prevent ore loss & dilution
  • Monitors equipment/consumable usage for optimal and efficient operation.
  • Identifying and participating in continuous improvement projects which including cost saving and increased production efficiency projects
  • In conjunction with Supervisors conduct TBRAs for the purpose of continued operational procedure development.
  • Review and approved Mining’s operational training packages in conjunction with the Mine trainer Supervisor and On Crew Training Supervisor
  • Mentor OCTs trainers. Assist with training and assessment on all mining equipment.

Technical Accountabilities.

  • Monitor pit development, haul road construction and dump management and as per the sites LOM plan.
  • Ensure accuracy to plan in a timely manner as defined by the 3 Monthly and Weekly Plans provided by short term engineers
  • Under the direction of the Mining Superintendent undertake Mining related project studies and Investigations for opportune short dumping and efficient pit to ROM ore delivery.
  • Ensure compliance to weekly phase movement
  • Ensure manning numbers are as per the budget
  • Develop a close working relationship with the Geotechnical Engineer in order to optimize pit wall stability.
  • Ensure the 4 month forecast is reviewed achievable the with business goal and objectives
  • In conjunction with Mine planning and L&H Engineers assist on budget and forecast machine availabilities and utilizations requirements.
  • Reconciliation of all costs within L&H. Report on performance.
  • Ensure GET consumables and tyres are under budget and strive to deliver a cost reduction of 20% of the yearly budget.
  • Review Q/A data, digging rates, truck cycle and effective utilization

  • All work is carried out safely with regular Supervision of team members throughout the shift

Unique requirements/other information

  • Multi skilled with previous mining capital projects execution experience.
  • Candidate must be physically medically fit.

Qualifications

  • 15 years operational experience complemented with extensive experience as a Supervisor / Superintendent.

Knowledge and Experience

  • Significant experience in a mining environment
  • Comprehensive Supervision and leadership skills in International mining operation
  • Previous expatriate experience
  • Able to understand priorities and utilize equipment to deliver outcomes as per the mine plan
  • Extensive experience as an all-round operator
