Attention PBCN, CHCN and MNS members! Are you ready to start your career in mining?

If you are a member of the Peter Ballantyne Cree Nation (PBCN), Cumberland House Cree Nation (CHCN) or self-identify as Métis and are eligible to be a member of or are registered as a citizen of the Métis Nation of Saskatchewan (MNS) as well as a member of a Métis local within Saskatchewan Métis Eastern Region 1, then this is your opportunity to build a solid foundation for your future success in the mining industry!

Eldorado Gold Saskatchewan | Foran is excited to partner with University College of the North (UCN) and NORCAT to deliver the upcoming Mining Readiness Program. We are seeking ten (10) individuals from PBCN, CHCN and MNS who are interested in gaining the practical skills, industry knowledge, and safety certifications needed to succeed in entry-level mining roles.

Successful completion of the program will prepare participants for entry-level employment opportunities within the mining industry. Eldorado Gold Saskatchewan | Foran expects to fill up to four (4) entry-level Miner Trainee positions from among successful graduates of the Mining Readiness Program, subject to business requirements and successful completion of the recruitment process. Graduates who are not immediately offered a position may be considered for future employment opportunities as additional trainee vacancies become available.

Program Details

  • Location: UCN - Northern Manitoba Mining Academy in Flin Flon, Manitoba.
  • Start Date: Monday, October 19, 2026
  • Times: Monday - Friday, 7 hours per day
  • Duration: 4 weeks of in-person training
  • Cost: Tuition & materials for the 4-week course are fully covered for accepted participants. Participants must pay for their own food and lodging during the program.


What You Will Learn
By combining classroom learning, hands-on experience, and virtual and augmented reality simulations, this four-week program provides participants with real-world experience and industry-recognized skills in:

  • Fundamentals of Mining - Learn the essential concepts, tools, and techniques used in modern mining operations.
  • Workplace Safety - Get certified in WHMIS, Working at Heights, Elevated Work Platforms, and Forklift Operation to meet industry standards.
  • Equipment & Operations - Train in rock scaling, hoisting, and other key mining operations to build hands-on expertise.
  • Virtual Reality (VR) & Augmented Reality (AR) Training - Practice mining techniques in a state-of-the-art simulated environment to enhance learning and safety.
  • Mine Site Tours - Experience real mining environments, gaining firsthand insight into daily operations.


Participant Responsibilities
Participants must:

  • Arrange and pay for their own food and lodging during the program.
  • Fully participate in the entire four-week in-person training program to successfully complete the course.
  • Meet all workplace safety and readiness requirements for the program.

What to Expect After Applying

  • Eldorado Gold Saskatchewan | Foran and UCN will review all applicants and shortlist a pool of candidates to participate in in-person assessments and interviews in Flin Flon, Manitoba on Monday, September 28, 2026.
  • Following the assessments and interviews, ten (10) participants will be selected to take part in the four-week Mining Readiness Program.
  • Successful applicants will be contacted by Friday, October 2, 2026, and must be available to begin the program on Monday, October 19, 2026, in Flin Flon, Manitoba.
  • Successful graduates will be accredited with a joint UCN/NORCAT certificate which provides credentials recognized by the mining industry.
  • Eldorado Gold Saskatchewan | Foran will consider selected graduates for available trainee vacancies.


McIlvenna Bay Project site is an drug and alcohol free environment with all positions worked at site considered as safety sensitive. Therefore, successful graduates who are offered a position with Eldorado Gold Saskatchewan must successfully complete a pre-employment medical assessment, which includes drug and alcohol testing, as a condition of employment.
