This position reports to the Director, Strategic Procurement – Category Management – Goods. There is a Category Analyst reporting to this position.

What you will do:
  • Manage the Engineered & Electrical Equipment category and its respective portfolio of contracts & suppliers comprised of 100+ suppliers and $200M USD in annual spend, and it includes the following subcategories: turbomachinery, pumps, electrical equipment, instrumentation & process controls equipment and fixed equipment
  • Provide strategic sourcing and contract management of engineered equipment, spare parts & embedded field/shop services
  • Recommend and execute on targets for risk mitigation, cost savings and supplier performance management
  • Plan resource levels across procurement sourcing subcategories/commodities, projects and functions based on strategic plan priorities
  • Interact with internal customers and other functions to understand their needs for procurement of commodity and specialized goods and services
  • Develop and present subcategory/commodity sourcing strategies for approval to the Category Management Director and relevant stakeholders as directed in the Procurement Policy
  • Deploy and direct a Category Analyst to support strategic analyses and coordinate initiatives through daily activities
  • Oversee sourcing strategy execution, in areas such as:
    • Manage Nutrien internal customer needs (scopes of work, specifications, volumes, price points)
    • Assess industry/supplier landscape by performing market research and supplier due diligence
    • Manage supplier selection process and make recommendations for Goods categories and commodities
    • Initiate supplier development and coordinate migration to potential new suppliers together with internal customers
    • Manage on-going supplier relationship and develop criteria and processes to monitor supplier compliance and overall performance
    • Monitor Nutrien internal customer feedback and KPIs and provide feedback to Category Management Director
    • Develop initiatives to reinforce/improve performance
    • Communicate Procurement performance to key Nutrien customers
    • Identify and report gaps to Category Management Director in current process, standards, systems, tools and best practices that Procurement Support functions can support
    • Perform additional tasks as assigned and defined by the Category Management Director
  • Lead contract commercial negotiations with suppliers while developing a network of internal customers across manufacturing sites to gather technical input
  • Engage Legal, Insurance, Treasury, EH&S and other internal departments for the negotiation and vetting of contractual terms
  • Develop key KPI's (goals & objectives) aligned to Corporate Procurement Team, Business Units and Site's goals & objectives that will measure the effectiveness of strategic spend management
  • Conduct Quarterly Business Reviews (QBR's) with suppliers, establishing KPI's and best practices for supplier performance (i.e. on-time delivery), cost savings, inventory optimization (lead times, on hand quantities, min/max, etc.) and other value-added services
  • Establish cross-functional teams to develop subcategory strategies initiatives to identify and recommend value realization opportunities from cost savings to reducing inventory holding and working capital to total cost of ownership perspective

What you will bring:
  • Bachelor's degree required (Mechanical/Chemical/Industrial Engineering degree preferred), MBA/Master's would be an asset
  • Minimum 8+ years relevant experience in strategic sourcing, category management and supply chain management
  • At least 5 years of hands-on experience and deep technical knowledge with managing the Engineered & Electrical Equipment category and its multiple types of Goods such as: compressors, turbines, pumps, mechanical seals, electric motors, switchgears, variable frequency drives, motor control centers, transformers, e-houses, hoist systems, pressure safety valves, process instrumentation & controls hardware/software, vibration monitoring equipment, etc
  • Certifications in disciplines such as Procurement (SCMP/CPSM), Inventory Management (CIPS), Lean / Six Sigma, or Operational Planning preferred, but not required
  • Strategic sourcing experience and capabilities on:
    • Spend management
    • Category strategy development & implementation
    • Supplier negotiations & contraction execution
    • Supplier relationship & contract performance management
    • Supplier risk management
    • Strong understanding of supply chain concepts including Source-to-Contract, Procure-to-Pay and inventory management
    • RFI/RFQ/RFP processes
    • Negotiation techniques
    • Contract content and law
  • Proven track record of cost reduction through implementation of category strategies and contract negotiations
  • Results-driven mindset and capabilities, adept at resource utilization and prioritization, target setting, budgeting and business case development
  • Excellent project management skills to manage strategy development and execution across multiple categories and site locations
  • Motivated, high-energy and self-starter business mindset; proven change agent with excellent facilitation and problem-solving skills and flexibility to direct and re-direct change
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with comfort working cross-functionally to gather information and resolve conflicts
  • Deep familiarity with the Microsoft office suite and other analytical software and the ability to learn quickly
  • Strong analytical capabilities and a track record of success in a highly quantitative and analytical environment
  • High degree of ethics, discretion, honesty, fairness, and sound business practices to secure and maintain Nutrien's reputation in the market
  • Team leadership skills capable of managing a team process to meet defined objectives
  • Ample industry knowledge and strong supplier relationships with OEMs and their distributors in North America
  • Broad experience in spend analytics, category strategy development and implementation, competitive sourcing, supplier negotiations & contract execution, supplier relationship & contract management and supplier risk management
  • Track record of effectively driving and managing organizational change and influencing diverse audiences to achieve challenging objectives
  • Analytical abilities and experience using quantitative insights to make decisions and influence stakeholders
  • Clear understanding and practical utilization of ERP Systems (SAP/Oracle), Ariba (spend management, source-to contract & contract workspace), material master data tools (SparesFinder) and how they are integrated with all procurement processes
  • Travel as needed (at times internationally). Travel at times may exceed ~30%
