Job Description



SNC-Lavalin’s Ports and Marine team is looking for a Civil co-op student (3rd or 4th year) to support them for 8 months starting January 2020. The student will have the opportunity to work on coastal and marine structures projects, supporting and learning from Professional Engineers, Engineers-in-Training, Technicians and Designers.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the development of conceptual, preliminary and detailed designs for port and marine infrastructure
  • Providing guidance to technical (CAD) support staff on aspects related to project work
  • Contributing to or preparing project documentation including design briefs, design criteria, engineering reports, drawings and technical specifications to summarize the approach taken and project relevant results
  • Planning and development of technology aids for the solution of coastal engineering problems
  • Supporting the completion of metocean data analysis
  • Accompany colleagues to assist with site inspections for existing structures and marine construction projects
  • Work and collaborate with project team members
  • Maintain good working relationships with internal project support groups
  • Assist with Research and Development initiatives within the team


Requirements

  • Enrollment in a civil engineering program (3rd or 4th year) at an accredited Canadian university or technical school
  • Familiarity with CAD, GIS and visualizations tools and software
  • An ability to work both independently and to prioritize multiple and multi-disciplinary projects and project teams
  • Familiarity with design codes and standards
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a positive problem solving and collaborative approach
  • Fluent in spoken and written English. Multilingual skills considered an asset
  • Computer skills - MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.)
  • Programming skills would be an asset
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Exposure to multi-disciplinary projects and teams would be an asset
