Our Geotechnical Engineering group is looking for an Intermediate to Senior Civil Engineering Technologist in Nanaimo. This position will be responsible for the field and laboratory testing of soils and construction materials. The successful candidate will work with our team of recognized industry experts within our Engineering group and be considered for the laboratory manager position.


• Performing field and laboratory testing of soil, aggregate and asphalt concrete. Typical tests include sieve analysis, density testing using nuclear density gauges, preparation of Proctors and Marshall molds, asphalt cement content, sand equivalents, Atterberg limits and moisture content. (Testing is undertaken in accordance with BC Ministry of Highways and Infrastructure procedures, CCIL, CSA and ASTM standards)
• Laboratory testing to be done at our Nanaimo, BC office location
• Providing quality control and quality assurance on a variety of laboratory and field testing projects
• Preparation of field and testing reports
• Ensuring the lab is in compliance with CCIL/CSA and Tetra Tech's in-house quality testing procedures

• Completion of High School and relevant post-secondary education in the area of Civil Engineering from a recognized Technical school is required
• Demonstrated practical hands-on design, construction administration and project management expertise (i.e. related office and field experience)
• Eligible for registration with ASTTBC
• Legally entitled to work in Canada
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products
• Excellent verbal and written communication, listening and time management skills
• Excellent analytical and problem solving skills
• Must possess a valid Class 5 Driver's License
• Must be willing to travel and work in a field setting away from headquarters
• Successful incumbent must be highly motivated and able to work independently

Additional Information

A requirement of working for Tetra Tech is that you are at least 18 years of age and legally entitled to work in Canada. (A copy of a valid work permit may be required.)

To meet the physical demands required of some positions, candidates must be in good physical condition and willing to work in all weather conditions. Clearance on pre-placement medical and drug and alcohol testing may be required.

All qualified candidates will be considered for the role and will be eligible for relocation allowance if selected (and are located outside of Nanaimo).
