The person in this position will work on challenging water resources projects requiring solid planning, data-collection, and problem-solving skills. The work involves conducting water quality sampling, surveying, field data collection at wells or project sites, erosion control inspections, and construction observation. It also entails sampling equipment preparation and monitoring, data reduction, spreadsheet preparation, CADD and GIS support, and assisting with construction plans and specifications as well as report preparation.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree or certificate in civil technology or related field, or equivalent experience
  • Two years’ experience as a civil technician or in related area of practice
  • Experience in developing, using, and interpreting construction and site development plans
  • Experience with construction observation and documentation
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Windows OS and Microsoft Office software
  • Familiarity with at least one of the following CAD civil design software programs: Autodesk Civil 3D, Bentley Inroads, or GEOPAK
  • Intermediate mathematical and computer skills
  • Ability and willingness to conduct field work independently
  • Comfortable working on and around water and/or ice-covered water bodies
  • Flexible working style, self-initiative, self-motivation and a willingness to work with teams to meet clients’ needs and project schedules
  • Thorough and organized approach to work, attention to detail, and the ability to work within a team
  • Conscientiousness concerning the accuracy, appropriateness, and timeliness of results
  • Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with project team members and clients
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship
  • Acceptable driving record


Preferred Qualifications

  • Survey experience
  • Erosion control inspection training and experience
  • Experience preparing cost estimates for feasibility and construction projects
  • Experience preparing construction documents that include drawings and specifications
  • Basic GIS skills and experience
  • Proficiency with MS Excel and MS Word


NOTE: Applicant must be able to work in locations that feature rough terrain typical of construction sites. Work may also require entering and working within facilities that include limited accessibility, moving machinery, and other conditions typical of industrial facilities. An OSHA-mandated physical exam may be required. Safety training will be provided.
