Located just outside of Muswellbrook, Thiess's Mount Pleasant Operation provides an exciting opportunity to help shape a new project into a World Class Operation.

About the role

The Coal Quality Officer at Mt Pleasant will provide exceptional geological and coal quality support and advice across the operation, working on a weekday roster.

In this role, you will:

· Identify and map relevant geological structure for survey measurement.

· Accurately identify coal seam roof, floor and edges to allow for recording of mined coal progress of coal mined and remaining reserves.

· Create representative post-mining models of surveyed structures in the pit to allow calculation of losses and/ or gains.

· Prepare coal gain and loss claim data for validation and submission to the Client.

· Prepare reconciliation information for validation and submission to the Client.

· Maintain a Short-Term Geological Model.

· Take regular in-pit coal quality samples.

· Monitor and reconcile quantities of mined coal and inpit coal inventory.

· Provide day to day guidance to supervisors and operators on geology and coal quality to ensure planned quantity and quality is achieved.

· Ensure geological structures are well understood in current and future areas to enable safe and effective extraction of the coal resource.

· Advise key stakeholders on any existing or upcoming coal quality issues.

· Create information maps to assist in the communication of future geological structures.

· Form and maintain geotechnical hazard plans and databases.

About you

· A relevant tertiary level qualification in Geology or equivalent

· Extensive experience working as a Geologist/Coal Quality Officer, preferably in an open-cut coal environment

· In depth knowledge of Geological practices in the coal mining industry

· Knowledge of relevant mining legislation and obligations under these including the Coal Mining Health & Safety Act and associated Regulations

· Strong planning and problem-solving skills

· Ability to influence across multiple levels

· Strong communication skills, able to analyse results, implement plans and work with operations and technical personnel

· Knowledge of contracts and ability to work within parameters and deadlines

· Proficiency in Vulcan and geological modelling packages and a good working knowledge in MS Office.
