Role Details

Reporting to the Unit Manager: Sustainable Development, this role provides guidance, leadership, and expertise to the Operations in key areas relating to community relations and public affairs, stakeholder relations, native title management, heritage related matters, indigenous employment and business opportunities.

This role is offered on a 13-month fixed term contract, based on a 8 days on 6 days off roster and is Fly in Fly out from Perth.

Key responsibilities will include:
  • Always act in a manner that seeks to enhance the safety culture and performance of GFA and ensures that the Vital Behaviours are adhered to at all times;
  • Demonstrate full compliance with the OHS and Environmental Management Systems' standards by developing and participating in initiatives and participating in and contributing to audits;
  • Deliver strategies set at local level in the areas of stakeholder engagement, community relations and native title management;
  • Maintain and review the Local Stakeholder Engagement strategy and plan to ensure currency and delivery of action items;
  • Maintain and improve upon local Stakeholder relationships;
  • Maintain and continually review relevant strategies and policies and plan to ensure currency and delivery of action items;
  • Ensure strict compliance with Native Title Agreement and act as Key Contact between company and Native Title Group;
  • Provide guidance, leadership and management of Community Relations team
  • Align the Local operations to the requirements of the group guideline on community relations and stakeholder engagement;
  • Develop, implement and execute community involvement initiatives and sponsorship strategies which will enhance Gold Fields' engagement within the local community;
  • Assist local staff with the management of relevant Native Title responsibilities and develop and implement programs designed to increase local participation (including businesses) by interested indigenous and local stakeholders;
  • Ensure that legislative or best practice changes relating to stakeholder relations, community relations and native title management are reflected in effective change management processes;
  • Consistently demonstrate and reflect behaviours, actions and attitudes in line with the Gold Field's Vision, Values and Code of Ethics. Actively promote Gold Field's policies, procedures and systems relating to your area of responsibility.


Key factors to your success include:
  • Relevant qualification in stakeholder relations, community development and corporate affairs
  • Post graduate qualifications in relevant field
  • Substantial and recent management in stakeholder relations in an operational setting, particularly with indigenous stakeholders
  • Experience in achieving local participation in the mining industry
  • Significant experience in conflict management and influencing skills
  • Experience in defining and implementing stakeholder management plans that contribute to the overall social license to operate
  • Collaborated, as an integral member of a multifunctional management team, to generate &/or deliver divisional level strategy
  • Develop and execute short- to long-term plans supporting strategy as might be reflected in
  • Extensive Indigenous Relations/Native Title or heritage survey experience
  • Multicultural stakeholder relations experience
