Data Analytics Engineer

This role is an exciting opportunity to be part of the Autonomy and Technology team within Fortescue

The role of the Data Analytics Engineer is to provide detailed analysis on various aspects of Mine Production metrics to inform decision making at Management level. The analysis will support well defined business cases to drive decisions around automation of equipment and systems. The role will also be responsible for developing business cases, and use cases based on industry wide production measurement metrics. The role will potentially be working across all sites in the business and straddle both mobile operations as well as fixed plant.

Key accountabilities will include:

  • Detailed data analysis of production metrics to identify opportunities against a time usage model and/or Production cycle
  • Build detailed business cases to inform decision making on pathways towards automation of various equipment
  • Support the Autonomy team in defining and validating problem statements with data driven analysis
  • Analyse available data sources to identify optimisation opportunities within the fixed plant infrastructure
  • Assist with data extraction, interpretation and analysis on request by various stakeholders
  • Support of the existing reporting requirements within the Autonomy team
  • Site visits as required

Qualifications and skills required:

  • Tertiary Qualifications in Process Control, Mechanical or Mining Engineering
  • Mining experience, preferably in Iron Ore
  • A working knowledge of mining value chain (mobile operations and fixed plant operations)
  • Experienced in reporting dashboard systems, preferably Tableau
  • Experience in SQL data querying
  • Experienced in developing high level presentations for management level audience
  • Working understanding of time usage models and production cycles
  • Strong conceptual thinking and analytical focus
  • Excellent problem solving skills and continual improvement focus
  • Strong computer skills, particularly in Microsoft Excel
  • Excellent communication skills
