SEM-Hatch is a joint venture between Hatch Ltd. and Sikumiut Environmental Management Ltd. providing engineering, construction and project management services in the province of Newfoundland & Labrador. SEM-Hatch is performing Engineering and Project Management Services for the Voisey’s Bay Mine Expansion project. Our client is now ready to initiate the construction phase of an underground mine. This mine expansion project is expected to produce about 40,000 tonnes of nickel per year and extend the life of the Voisey’s Bay operation until at least 2032.

The Project is seeking a DeltaV Programming Engineer with experience in metals, mining and/or infrastructure projects. The DeltaV Programming Engineer will be a lead programmer for projects involving DeltaV configuration. The successful candidate will develop DCS automation requirement specifications and functional descriptions using industry best practices. In addition, the candidate will be required to configure the DeltaV database, HMI and develop the required programming and logic, function block diagram and/or Sequential function charts. The successful candidates must have DeltaV relevant skills primarily in building class-based control modules in DeltaV, in-depth knowledge on DeltaV function blocks and data structures, DeltaV Tune with Insight, and familiar with the use of PID, Cascade and ratio control. The candidate must be familiar with the latest DeltaV electronic marshalling architecture options (CHARMS) as well as the latest virtualization technologies. The candidate must be able to independently use DeltaV operate and the control studio to execute projects from start to commissioning, familiar with Factory Acceptance Testing and have experience in developing and executing testing for configured code products in a plant environment.

This position will be located in St. John’s full time contract with the VBME project and followed that potential site work as needed starting from September 2019 to September 2020 with possibility of extension.

Knowledge/Skill/Ability Requirements:
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering/ Chemical Engineering/ Software Engineering/from an accredited College or University;
  • At least 6+ years or more of DeltaV experience is mandatory and very knowledgeable with latest hardware/software (ie: DeltaV Live);
  • Candidate must have a passion for process control, automation and computer systems;
  • Must be well versed in current statutory regulations, industry standards and recommended practices and a practical sense in applying such references; DCS and PLC control system hardware and architecture;
  • Plant site instrumentation, control systems, control valves, and communications;
  • Practical instrumentation system reliability, maintenance and repair standards;
  • Understanding of Electrical hazardous area classifications and specification of plant site equipment;
  • Experience with digital communications and fieldbus technologies, networking and hardware;
  • Excellent in Allen Bradley PLCs Ethernet I/P interface programming with Delta V system;
  • Excellent planning and execution drive to deliver results and meet quality, cost and schedule targets;
  • Train Junior Engineers and Designers for Programming and validate the work;
  • Work with Vendors’ Subject matter Experts to ensure effective communication and interface for software design;
  • Registered as a Professional Engineer is a plus;
  • Familiar of Hatch Project Delivery Documentation is a plus.
