Downer's surfacing division is highly respected and has a great track record for delivering a high standard of work. We have a full time position in Christchurch for a Maintenance Sealing Foreman available for proactive, energetic, passionate and hardworking individual to join our team.

About the role:

Your days will be busy supervising Chipsealing crew carrying out civil infrastructure maintenance sealing activities across the whole South Island. This 'hands on' role will require you to provide leadership by planning, providing direction and controlling activities whilst working alongside the team in the field.

You will be expected to ensure that work is completed to the satisfaction of all stakeholders, and all targets (safety, quality, production) are met.

The Maintenance Sealing Foreperson will also be able to provide training and development for any existing and new staff. They will also be supported to gain any other required licence classes, if not holding already, to adequately fulfil the role, including a Class 4 Licence for the Chipsealer.

This role will involve a large amount of travel, and overnight stays, including the likelihood of weeks away at any time across the South Island, during the Sealing Season from September to April.

Successful candidates will have:

A proven track record of supervising, and engaging teams, in a range of Chipsealing work, with a detailed knowledge of maintenance sealing activities, requirements and processes.
  • Strong planning skills. Organized and systematic approach to working environment, with the ability to create and develop high performing teams within a changing environment.
  • Evidenced ability to adapt to change, deal with unexpected events, make decisions and provide direction to work teams, whilst aiding in hands on implementation.
  • Show solution focused mindset, creative ability and willingness to work with a "continual improvement" philosophy.
  • Good verbal, numerical, and written communication skills, and understanding of communications needs across the business.
  • Proven ability and competence in the proper care, maintenance and operation of appropriate plant and equipment, w/ the ability and desire to continually learn.
  • Proven positive engagement and focus across all Health, Safety, and Environment areas, with regular near hit reporting, and leading safety briefings and toolbox talks.

Your will also have the appropriate driver's licences and the ability to obtain further classes as required.
