JOB DESCRIPTION



Position Summary

The Division Safety Manager, reporting directly to the Vice President, Human Resources & Safety, is directly responsible for the overall administration, coordination and evaluation of the safety and health function for the Mid-Atlantic Division (75 sites within NC, SC, MD and VA). Provides leadership, support and expertise in safety and health matters while developing and managing strategy and relevant programs to ensure compliance with company standards and applicable laws and regulations.

Essential Function/ Performance Requirements
  • Actively support Martin Marietta's Guardian Angel Safety Culture
  • Work closely with divisional leadership, safety and operations personnel to ensure strategic initiatives are properly aligned and executed throughout the division in order to meet or exceed safety performance goals
  • Ensure processes, programs, and procedures provide all employees with the tools and skills necessary to perform jobs in a safe work environment
  • Develop/update health and safety guidelines, programs and systems
  • Provide leadership and development for district safety professionals
  • Analyze, track and present safety performance metrics to division management
  • Provide guidance on matters related to compliance with MSHA, OSHA and DOT inspection, citation and assessment activity
  • Participate in corporate safety audit initiative and lead similar efforts within the division
  • Implement and maintain safety compliance programs that ensure 100% compliance with all company standards and local, state, and federal regulations
  • Inform operations personnel of existing and pending health and safety regulations/requirements, including reporting or action deadlines
  • Respond to requests by divisional safety staff for information or other assistance on specific health and safety matters
  • Direct annual third-party Industrial Hygiene assessments and training for all locations and provide Division and District Leadership an update on sampling data
  • Participate in quarterly workers' compensation reviews and provide updates to the necessary business partners

Minimum Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in occupational safety and health, related area or equivalent experience required
  • CMSP or CSP certifications desired
  • Minimum 5 years of health and safety experience, preferably in a mining or construction environment

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • In-depth applied knowledge of all facets of the modern safety and health function, including proven experience in behavior-based safety processes, with a minimum of five years in a management role
  • Previous experience managing health and safety issues on local and/or divisional level across multi-state operations
  • MSHA agency management experience, with OSHA/DOT experience a strong plus
  • Ability to work effectively with operations management and field safety staff
  • Strong organization and communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Exceptional relationship building and influencing skills as well as the ability to win the confidence and trust of employees at all levels
  • Demonstrated experience effectively managing consultants
  • Proficient in Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook)
  • Able and willing to travel 50-80%
