An exciting opportunity has arisen within our Burlington office for an Electrical & Instrumentation Department Lead to be primarily responsible for the administrative and functional leadership, strategic direction and management for the Electrical discipline.

Key Responsibilities:

Responsibilities of the Electrical & Instrumentation Department Lead include but are not limited to the following:
  • Oversee and provide support on electrical engineering design to produce deliverables such as budget and capital cost estimates, single line diagrams, area classification drawings, electrical load lists, equipment datasheets, equipment specifications and datasheets, material requisitions, technical bid evaluations, equipment layouts, grounding layouts, lighting layouts, cable tray layouts, power system studies, cable schedules, panel schedules, control schematics, electric heat trace design, wiring diagrams, 3D models, and construction work packages.
  • Oversee and provide support on instrumentation engineer design to produce deliverables as budget and capital cost estimates, network block diagram, loop and IO drawings, instrument cable schedule, P&ID development and instrument specification and datasheets, material requisitions and technical bid evaluations.
  • Preliminary and detailed Electrical design for Hight Voltage and Low Voltage power distribution systems and Motor Control Centres and substations
  • Preliminary and detailed instrumentation and control design for plant control systems, instrumentation and communications.
  • Work in accordance with Ausenco's values and demonstrate commitment, active involvement and leadership regarding safety, sustainability, client, people and financial accountabilities.
  • Prepare and manage electrical engineering proposals and budgets
  • Manage and coordinate the electrical engineering work
  • Maintain engineering standards across projects and studies by identifying shortcomings, implementing accepted levels of practice, conducting critical reviews and holding engineers to account for standards.
  • Lead and oversee both the development and approval of work schedules to ensure that objectives of cost, quality and time are met.
  • Confirm engineering discipline planning meets design requirements, scope and client expectations by maintaining a high level of communication with project team and clients.
  • Plan and lead project teams as a Project Manager for assigned projects.
  • Communicate effectively with clients to identify needs and evaluate alternative solutions.
  • Manage complex technical discussions with third parties (customer, suppliers, and regulators) to facilitate appropriate technical decisions.


  • A recognized Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical engineering from an accredited university and a P.Eng designation
  • Significant electrical design experience essential
  • Study, FEED and Detailed Engineering experience
  • Knowledge of multi-discipline engineering.
  • Prior experience leading Electrical Engineering project team of Engineers, Designers and Drafters.
  • Strong problem solving and organisational skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Degree in electrical engineering and registered, as a professional engineer
  • 15+ years' engineering experience, preferably gained through industrial projects relating to mining, materials handling, power generation, distribution, and transmission.
  • Strong working knowledge of power distribution from 600V to 115kV, protection & coordination, power factor correction, substation design, motor controls, VFD's and motor soft-starts, PLC/DCS systems, cabling and cable systems and specifications.
  • A successful track record working on medium/large engineering projects within an EPC environment
  • A reputation for successfully handling projects and people simultaneously and effectively.
  • Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills.
