Caterpillar's Surface Mining and Technology division is currently looking for an Engineering Specialist responsible for leading the electric rope shovel (ERS) powertrain team. This role will be located in Tucson, AZ. The engineer in this position will be responsible for team leadership and technical direction to design and develop improvements to the ERS powertrain in order to achieve performance, life/reliability, timeliness, and cost. This role will also identify and manage budgets for powertrain projects. Components under this team's responsibility include gears and gearboxes, brakes, couplings, and ropes.

Job Duties/Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

* Lead teams in the design of new and maintenance of existing products, processes, components, and systems
* Provide technical leadership on needs analysis and initiate ideas
* Propose and guide research and development of new technology
* Evaluate and promote new products, processes, or systems
* Communicate results to global customers, suppliers, team members, and other business units
* Complete projects on time and on cost
* Acknowledge and raise customers' and management's awareness of trade-offs between time, resources and quality.

Basic Qualifications:

* Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in a Mechanical Engineering curriculum

* 7+ years of Powertrain design experience

* Prior NPI and CPPD experience

Top candidates will also have:

* ERS design experience

* Creo solid modelling experience

* Cost reduction experience

* Technical team leadership experience

* Good communication, interpersonal and collaboration skills

* Strong analytical skills, examples of developing root cause analysis for problem solving
