The Role

Glencore Townsville Operations has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Environment Advisor to join our team, reporting to the Senior Environmental Advisor. If you want to become an integral part of the Environmental team managing a diverse range of environmental issues for the Townsville Copper Refinery and Townsville Port Operations then do not let this opportunity pass.

The Operation

Located on the coast in tropical North Queensland, Glencore's Townsville Operations encompass Copper Refineries Pty Ltd and Glencore Port Operations. Our Townsville Operations mark the final link in Glencore's fully integrated north Queensland supply chain, connecting the natural resources we produce with markets around the world. Copper Refineries Pty Ltd is one the world's leading electrolytic copper refineries, capable of producing 300,000 tonnes per year of premium-quality ISA brand LME Grade A copper cathode using Glencore's proprietary IsaKIDD refining process. Glencore Port Operations at the Port of Townsville is the export gateway for our north Queensland products.

What we are looking for…

The successful candidate will be responsible for:
  • Providing advice and support to operational areas on environmental aspects and impacts management;
  • Implementing and maintaining environmental management systems in relation to air emissions, groundwater, storm water and waste management;
  • Facilitation of the environmental monitoring programs, including field inspections;
  • Data management, review and interpretation of internal and external compliance reporting requirements;
  • Coordination of environmental improvement projects and investigations;

We are looking for someone with:
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in the field of Environmental Science or related discipline;
  • 5 years' experience in a similar role;
  • Manual Drivers' licence;
  • Demonstrated experience in environmental management systems and their application;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
  • Ability to work independently and part of a team to deliver consistent high results;
  • Customer focus and commitment to quality output.


Experience that will be highly regarded by not essential include:
  • Technical aspects of surface water, ground water or hydrology
  • Demonstrated experience in environmental related engineering aspects and problem solving;
  • In mining or other heavy industry.
